  • A voice from Vox

Received from Donegeal. Original was sent to nye but he didn't get it yet.

    Most Esteemed Stormians:

The time has come for our two people to decide the fate of our civilizations in the universe. Voxian warriors have scouted the Eye of the Storm and the surrounding land. They will soon be in position to cause havok with your populated countryside forcing them to work less desirable land much the same as you have already done to us; and we are now also in position to attack your invading Stormian warriors.

We have no desire to do either of these things.

Time is at a stand still to allow your respected scholars to discuss the possibility of not just a cease-fire, but of a bountiful alliance between our two great nations.

Continuing this war will only harm both our countries for centuries. Stormian warriors and then Skirmishers will invade and lay a prolonged siege on The Voice preventing our people from food, materials and wealth. Our people will holed up inside The Voice and rain fire upon any that attempt to gain entry with great cultural pride. Voxian units will harass Stormian workers and populace. All while the rest of the world will grow rich, powerful and strong. Stormia or Vox, whoever eventually emerges victorious in this prolonged conflict, will be far behind those that chose another path.

Peace and friendship, on the other hand, will make both our civilizations prosper beyond our current perspectives. A Stormian/Voxian alliance would be a power never seen on this planet before. All it requires is trust.

Together, we are exponentially greater than the sum of our parts.

    Donegeal, The Voice of Vox.

    [Game Mechanics]

We have requested the delay of the game to allow you time to respond to this initial proposal of peace and prosperity. I know that what we have asked is not something that is simple or quick, but we would like a response before we finish playing the turn, as whatever your response is, will have significant impact on what we do. In the turn so far, we have already moved our warrior to the hill 9,9 of Eye of the Storm. We are holding up the decision on attacking Grog based on what you respond.

"Yes! Let's talk." and we will not attack and offer in-game peace.
"Let's talk." and we will not attack and offer in-game cease-fire.
"No." and we may still attack.
No response will be taken as a no and we may yet attack.

We hope that you at least respond to this as no response will take longer.

In both the cases of an in-game offer, we will expect you to hold to your choice and not use it as a means to gain an extra turn of fortifying (While it is not against the rules, I am sure how you can see it would be viewed as disreputable.).

Looks like I missed a romping good time on the opener, and it's funny...the more things change, the more they stay the same...Vox and GS sharing a land-mass again. How fitting.

I can't say that I'll be able to stay thru the whole shebang, but recently, my health has taken a turn for the decidedly better, and how better to celebrate, than to catch up on the reading here!

I've read all the turn summaries to date, and am pouring over the KGB and other threads...if I may post the beginnings of an opinion on the matter of Vox, it would simply be this:

      No peace at any price.

Not because of their (rather scandalous) reputation in the other game, but simply as a matter of pragmatism.

They're too close, and they need to go away.

      Permanently.

In reading through the threads so far, it is blindingly clear that nobody here needs the least bit of help, and my sugesstions below are nothing that hasn't already been said before. In my mind, to see to Vox's destruction, two things are needed:

      1) A force of Skirmishers to lock them down, but good (a move that's already afoot)

      and

      2) A second city, as soon as is possible (a thing that DeepO has already been agitating for.. ). We do that, and we gain a geometric production advantage over them (and the timing is right...even with weakened chop, we can use it, post BW, to hasten a settler build).

Our Skirmishers don't need to hurry....we'll kill them slowly, and with Skirms. inside their borders, there's no way they can break out to settle a second site of their own...it'd be beyond risky.

On the other hand, they only have a single warrior threatening us, with scant chances of getting anything more to us, and certainly not enough to be considered a credible threat, and the *moment* we gain the advantages of two production centers to their one, we formally seal their fate...hemmed in by skirmishers, facing (at least) twice the production, comparable or better tech, there's just no hope. My sense of the communication above is that it's either a) an outright bluff, or b) they are GROSSLY underestimating our position, and lack a firm grasp of the current strategic realities.

I'd say they're feeling the pressure going higher. There's liitle good reason in ceasing hostilities now- continue the war for now. While we won't be able to conquer them anytime soon, they're just too dangerous being kept alive in the long run (regarding technology- I wouldn't be worried about the tech race- it's a simple matters of supply and demand, once we discover/get discovered by the others).
In short: right now we have to keep them down until we can easily take them out.

I'd reply with a reminder of their past hostile incursion of a "missionary-pioneer" of somesuch- a bit of RP would be in place right now, also to ease the pressure (I'm personally getting tired of them halting the turns- it reflects tension, and I find it a bit un-sportive, so early on in the game).
