Will this game ever start? I have lost my faith in it. I remember the good old days, when we couldn't wait HOURS to start a game. See the original PtWDG, which NYE created only because Trip hadn't shown up in time. Now we can wait THREE MONTHS and there is still no start in sight. What are we waiting for, a patch? And if so, why, since patches now come out pretty much simultaneously for all?Comment

It was my understanding that the release of the patch was imminent. But that was BEFORE I left for New Zealand. Dunno what's up.

Yeah, the delay has been a seriously bummer. On a related note, the promise of imminency fouled up a lot of the Civ4 community, including not only various 'group games' of different stripes, but mods, forum activity, prolly media coverage, etc. To my thinking, it's been a bigger SNAFU than people are making it out to be.The greatest delight for man is to inflict defeat on his enemies, to drive them before him, to see those dear to them with their faces bathed in tears, to bestride their horses, to crush in his arms their daughters and wives.

My own enthusiasm for the game has waned. I haven't touched it since I got back. That means I haven't played for a month. I cannot recall EVER taking that long a break from CivIII (this gives you an idea of the depth of my civ addiction), which as we all know was a much-maligned game.

Well, I've still been playing it, but that's just because my friends that aren't on Apolyton were so impressed by the improved graphics that they've given it a shot, now I have hotseat parties at my house every other friday, it's kinda sickFirst Master, Banan-Abbot of the Nana-stary, and Arch-Nan of the Order of the Sacred Banana.

I know what you mean, my friends and I play on noble just because none of them know how to handle the barbarians that well, I've logged one deity victory out of 9 attempts now. I win maybe 2 in 10 on Emperor, maybe 7 in 10 on Monarch...

to be sure, all of those wins had several things in common
1. I was able to somehow found a religion
2. I was Saladin
3. Spain started next to me and converted to my religion
4. Spain did all my defense while I built cultural stuff and gifted missionarries to Spain
5. Sometimes Spain would declare war on someone because I asked Spain to do so.

That's a bit of a problem... without SS, the higher difficulties are much easier. The SS is the timer of CIV games, wihtout it you've got no time restrictions.Originally posted by Metaliturtle

Me neither, not at all. But it isn't my goal either, I love playing Monarch (which I win 95% of the time), and I expect that in a few years, I will still play a lot of my games on Monarch. The feeling of knowing that you'll win, and simply finding the most fun way of reaching that appeals more to me then finding the absolute best way of doing something, so you can play 'above your level'. CIV is more like a hobby for me, not a sport
