Losing a turn, to settle in poorer country? Sorry, I'm not so easily convinced. If settling 8 is really the team's choice, I'd like to move our warrior there first. Moving 1 tile is many times a bad choice to do blindly...

I don't know if this is ok as a scenario. I changed the visible terrain and made some guesses of the tiles under fow (worldbuilder made) and then saved the map. Helps me to do some thinking

      I just noticed, I don't have the game's mod....where could I get it?

Edit: Fixed tile at 9-8 under fow. Looks like its a fp. (not on picture)

The mod isn't available yet, because i'm not done with it yet You can DL from some thread elsewhere a mod with the same name and the basic structure ... in the Choose Colors thread iirc.

DeepO, i'll try to make more screenies later tonight.

What do you mean by poorer? By settling on the hill we get +1 hammer, and we STILL have a guarantee of 5 floodplains (up from 4) and 3 (non-desert) hills on rivers (down from 4).

So the question of warrior direction:
To me, looking at that start, there is no question that settling at (8) is the best idea. It is likely that moving the warrior 8 will only reinforce that idea - it's improbable that anything will make it look like a bad move.
On the other hand, moving the warrior to (1) might give a compelling reason to stay put.

Moving 8 reveals 9 tiles, and I agree, if we're going to settle there might as well take a peek first with the warrior...

All the sims I've done the hut gives just gold (35-50)...odds are that's what we'll get...oops, just got agri out of it (10-20% chance maybe)

If we settle on eight we build a warrior and grow to size 2 in eight turns...

for pottery we first need fishing (6 turns), which is useless right away (?) or agri (8 turns)...

Good option is warrior first (8 turns) then worker (10)...by then we already have hunting. Build scout in 7 turns while we grow to size 3 in 6. Settler then takes 14 turns while we build cottages and mine the hills. Archery and BW shold be done by then too. Man, cottages on fp are good bussiness...i should use them more

now this was deffinitely not the religion path...

I don't necessarily suggset uploading pics to your Upload space, btw. As I posted elsewhere, it's trivial to figure out any given user's Upload url, and unless you treat the file name like a secure password (many random characters) it would be trivial to guess a few times at likely screenshot names - especially if you use Civ4's screenshots themselves.

I suggest using GIMP, the Gnu (free) Image Manipulation Program, to take screenshots and resize them down to 800 pixels wide (any depth is okay). Then you can post them as attachments.

Plains hill, though! How is the country poorer, exactly?

I agree we need to use the warrior to scout before moving/settling, but how much is moving him 8 going to reveal to us? We should uncover 8, 9 and 66 (from the hill) for sure, and I think we'll uncover 89. If I understand the mechanics correctly, we won't be able to see past the hills at 7 and 8 from the move-to hill. That's three tiles that will be in the fat cross either way and possibly one that we'd pick up by moving. Moving the warrior 2 will show us three tiles we'll be giving up, which may well be more informative.

I agree with solomwi, that warrior needs to go 2 and prontwo!
