It's of course not a great start but not a bad one either.
On the bright side:
I see lots of food and lots of shields (go together well) - go agriculture and mining!
I see a winding river with fresh water and plenty of +1 commerce tiles.
I see a starter kit of forest to chop.
On the dark side:
I see lacking health (will be even worse the more we chop)
I don't see any resources.
If we have 1-2 resources lurking in the FoW, this start position is not bad at all. If not, oh well, but not a disaster either.

Ah. more flood plains.
Cottage the life out of that start later on, but right now use it for growth and shields, is my opinion.
We already have mining. We can chop the forest out side of the capital radius if need be, instead of the ones inside.
Are we going for the Oracle? and If so, are we going to try and build a settler before hand? My gut instinct is "no".
If we do go for the Oracle, I think we are going to have to forgo Hunting, grow as fast as possible using the flood plains, and use a few mined hills, and forest chops for speed. Myst>Med(stop if B
ub is discovered)>BW>Preisthood>writing>whatever
The max happiness we can get without more resources is size 6. Alternate between using 4 flood plains, 2 mined plains hills, and 3 flood plains and 3 mined plains hills, gives us an average of 11spt. If we have a bit of foos to spare, we could get the Oracle 8 turns after discovering PH.
Agri is a waste IMO, 7 turns to irrigate a flood plain for +1 fpt? never get the hills mined in time, could ojnly irrigate about 1 fp, and it wastes time researching a none critical tech, delaying the oracle...
If we wanted to go for the throat in a more conventional manner, go for pottery early, and try to get two workers, cottage the area up, and chop a few settlers. You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

At least 5 floodplains and 3 plains hill on river. Can grow to size 8 before running out of great stuff to work. The best move would probably be founding on the plains hill above the settler.
Lack of resources can be a real blessing, we could easily get away with just mining (which we already have) and pottery (we already have wheel). This means we can "afford" more research in other fields, such as for religion, scouts and skirmishers. Really, it's an ideal mali start.
We could probably get away without chopping much at all since mining those two plains hills gives a fair pile of shields. There's also enough good, easily improved tiles that pop-rush is of questionable value, at least at the capital. With our Skirmishers Bronze Working could be deferred slightly.

blake, can grow to size 6 before it runs out of hapiness, and right now that is the more pressing problem...
I'll be back by Friday evening GMT, and I can have a greater loook around and more simming possibilities done then. But right now, time to disassemblethe computer, and go and get my head blown off at a LAN party...You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

Plains hills on river with floodplains. I LOVE IT.
Btw... is our settler/warrior pair on the same tile (seems different than a usual game, where your units start seperated).
I'd be inclined to move the warrior north to the plains hill (or possibly south to the forested... grass? hill), then most likely move the settler north and settle there.

Incidently, given this start I'm now happy we're playing on Prince We can use the health help early...

Assuming we get religion...
Hah, the internet works.
Help!! I'm stuck in a room with 8 WoW addicts!! Mind you, they're stuck in a room with a Civ addict
And this is prince? I thought it was noble.. :hmm:
I'd move the warrior 2, and move the settler north. Next turn, if we settle on the hill, we can pop the hut, and alot of our plans could change depending on what we popped...Last edited by Krill; February 16, 2006, 09:53.You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.
