I personally thought that was the order for everything: picking civs, colors, AND the game. Shows what I know.

Team Mercenary supports a new random draw, it would be unfair for teams to vote now, knowing results. "hey AC, wanna be last?"

When snoopy and I were discussing how to deal with civ selection, I had suggested the ordering be reversed for who goes first to help balance things.

Let's face it, outside getting orange there is no game advantage to picking colors first.

I thought that it was linked to the civ choices process: whoever got the first civ pick, is last in turn order. Whoever was last with the civ pick, is first. I was already celebrating that we got the second to last civ pick, as it would be the second in turn order too... Looks like I was celebrating too soon.

        I second that.

How about a random draw.. but weighted

if you got your first CIV choice, then you only have one number in the 'pool'

if you got your second, then two numbers

if you got your third, three numbers

pretty easily done, and the most fair, I think

(because who cares if you got to pick your civ last.. if you got your first pick?)

This is becoming somewhat silly. There are advantages and disadvantages to every position in the turn order: first, middle, and last.

First: Will get wonders on a tie. Will react to changing situations last.

Middle: Will not get wonders before first players, but will be able to react to first player movements. Will not have the reaction advantages of the last player.

Last: Assuming two people complete wonders on the same turn (which is not exactly a common event we're discussing, gentlemen) these guys will always get the shaft. On the other hand, they will be able to evaluate what everyone else has done with the turn at the start of theirs, enjoying those tactical advantages.

It's a sliding scale, with advantages and disadvantages at every point along the line.

Do we really need to hold the game up debating the best way to determine where everyone sits on the sliding scale? Just randomly assign them with a freakin' 8 sided die and move on.

Are religions given out by turn order too?

Given the relative lack of difference in early research rate this could be very important for anyone planning on getting a religion.

Don't worry, this issue isn't holding the game up. The map generation and preview has been schedualed. It will happen then barring some unforseen incident. If this issue hasn't been settled by the time the map is ready then it could hold the game up. (In which case it will be settled arbitrarily no doubt.)
