            Interlude: The Old Man

The young woman tapped on the door to the Old Man's house. She heard no answer but went in anyway. The Old Man slept a lot and didn't hear very well anymore.

She entered the neat and comfortable home and saw the Old Man asleep on his couch. As usual the house was well kept (she saw to that) but his desk with its papers was a mess.

She tsked and shook her long blond hair over one shoulder while she bent over the table to neaten up the writings. After a moment, and a glance at the Old Man, she sat down to read.

When she was done, she straightened up and set to putting the text into a pile. She looked at the quills and scrapped and sharpened them and put them aside. The ink container was left unstoppered again. She shook her head and poured a drop of water into it and corked it and gave it a shake.

A voice from behind made her start and then stand up quickly.

The Old Man was awake. "Is there any point to it? Should I keep writing... or will people only care about the exciting parts that come later? What do you think?"

"Oh you! I don't know about things like that."

The Old Man sat and thought. "Well at least I can try to finish up this little part first. We can see if people want to read it later."

                  Hey! Somebody read it!

Maybe I'll write some more for you mrboo.

I think perhaps that my audience likes the hack and slash episodes better, but it seems as if there is time right now to fill with a little more of a story.

It will morph into something a little more newsy when we actually have some events.

I read it and I like it.
I just don't post because I see these post of yours as a book, not a thread.
                      Best regards,

Yes, I too didn't post because I didn't want to have to sift through comments to find the actual story.

Anyway, I thought Trin was dead after the blow... I liked how you made me change my feelings about the Flench family from admiration to detesting them in a very short time. When I found out Trin wasn't dead, I thought he had joined something like the barbarians, however his research-breakthrough on farming isn't really possible then. I guess we'll find out in a while who the "Bird People" really are.

Keep up the good job and maybe start a 'discussion' thread for this were people can post some opinions without disrupting the flow of your story.

Very nice story and easy to read. Even I can understand it... Well maybe my english is strong enough to read this kind of stories. Some scientific articles are another matter..

                            Bird people... hmmm

Thanks for the feedback, folks. I'll keep the story moving since there seems to be an audience!

If somebody wants to start a separate discussion thread, that would be OK. I am interested to see how people perceive the story... to see if I am successful with what I am trying to do.

I need to get back to work on this so I can see how things turn our with Trin and Lore (pronounced Loré, BTW).
