I think that we have decided, but the Mighty Beta, Primary Tribune of the Senate of Sarantium has not made an appearance in a few days. He has the final say on things and must be heard - plus he is the only one with permission to accept people!

BTW, make certain that there is a wet bar in that wing - and we'll all have a HUGE party when it is opened, right?
A party indeed GB! A big one at that!"I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic. Parties over at our place is all well and good but how comes we never get invited over to your place ?
We dont make that much mess, honestA proud member of the "Apolyton Story Writers Guild".There are many great stories at the Civ 3 stories forum, do yourself a favour and visit the forum. Lose yourself in one of many epic tales and be inspired to write yourself, as I was.

Dunno. We used to have these big marble palaces that were open on all sides. Plus these refugees kept coming through and taking the buzz of the party.
If we can ever decide on a civ, I'll work on the paaaarty room. You guys are good for a Thursday night, right?
I don't care about mess. The trick is to learn not to notice it. LOL.
BTW, we've researched brewing and are kegging up for our first all team blow out. Everybody invited!!! It'll probably be on a beach or in a rainforest, but we'll make it work. Home brew, yum.

Howdy Sarantians,
Potential new player seeks team, must be tolerant of short-term (1-2 day) unannounced and long-term (1-2 week) announced absences due to RL and open to commentary, not necessarily witty.
If interested please reply with a few words about your team's culture and goals.
You'll probably want to know a little about me, I've held almost every position in the Civ3 DGs on CFC, as well as participated in MSDG (PTW), ISDG (C3C) and CFC's multi-team game. Someone else had my handle on this site, on the other sites (CFC, Evolution, CDZ, RBCiv, etc.) you can find me as DaveShack without the underscore.
My main interest in joining this game on some team, maybe this one, is to see how y'all approach things compared to the other games I'm in -- and have fun doing it..some day I'll put a catchy phrase here

To start - E_T, Trip, and Flamer the Fin have been authorized for Sarantium.
Dave - under review.
E_N - see F-P's post above. That is generally my take as well. Sorry, but the interests of the team come first.Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.

Beta suggested I should share more info, but I'm not sure what topics you all are interested in hearing. Looking back at some previous posts about other people who wanted to join, here's how I view those matters.
I'm married with 2 kids, almost 5 and 2. I work 60 or so hours a week as a software engineer for "really big computer company" and have frequent interruptions. In this RL environment, I need a team who are willing to work with someone who tries to be available but realistically can't be sure from day to day or week to week.
When in a position of responsibility (as I often am in the SP DG's over on CFC) I announce my absences and have a backup plan in place. If someone else is absent, I pitch in and help -- there is nothing to gain by complaining about it.
My approach to civ is fairly easy going. Winning is big for me, but I don't take offense when my views are unpopular, and setbacks or even losses are opportunities to learn, not disasters. Measured responses are the proper way to handle diplomatic relations, for most situations. I'm willing to be the fireball if that's what the team wants, but I'm not going to go on a spree on my own.
Hope these are the topics you're interested in, if you have any questions I'll be happy to answer what I can.some day I'll put a catchy phrase here

Thanks for the post Dave_Shack.
I can certainly understand about the frequent RL interruptions. I believe our whole team can.
Give us a little time to discuss the matter, and then wait for "His Slugness Lord Beta" to come back next week (okay probably not a week, I'm just having some fun at his expense ).

How long have you been a member at CFC Dave? Which Demogames did you participate in? Do you know Octavian_X?
What is your login name at CFC?
ThanksLast edited by conmcb25; January 18, 2006, 21:00.*"Winning is still the goal, and we cannot win if we lose (gawd, that was brilliant - you can quote me on that if you want. And con - I don't want to see that in your sig."- Beta

If I may add an additional question?
How do you feel about the relative importances of playing a game well vs. winning a game?
BTW, nice reply! I work for another, "big computer company" that, I suspect has similar company color but is different. Oh, I don't work on computers either.

I'm DaveShack on CFC, also formerly d8575 for a short while. I joined both sites in early 2003 but spent more time over there -- no special reason, just found more stuff that caught my eye.
I participated in Civ3 DG3-7, ISDG (C3C), MSDG (PTW), our internal team game, and Civ4 DG1. Octavian X has been a regular in many of those games.
On playing well vs. winning: I'd much rather play well and win , but get much more satisfaction out of learning something new and applying that knowledge than in slogging through the actual win, or shudder using dubious tactics in an "anything to win" environment.some day I'll put a catchy phrase here
