  • Third City Placement

We should start thinking about this.

I believe last time when we were discussing the second city site, this map was proposed.

Suggestions? The two prime sites seem to me to be a block off of Sarantium (the green site on that map) or the horses/luxuries (the area of the pink city on that map).

I strongly favor going after the ponies.

Not to mention the million other resources at that spot. I concur.

Sounds like we're going after ponies, then. What spot exactly, though?

There is a nice plains hill west of them that would start the city out with another hammer. However, that would mean it would only grab the gems and not any sugar.

A point on the grass hill south of the lake: this city would have 12 jungle in its radius, producing +3 unhealth. It would get +2 from the lake, +1 from forests, and +2 from the difficulty level, leaving it at 5>4 unhealthiness at pop 1; at pop 3 it would receive its first -1 food for unhealthiness. This would improve in the near future once connected, of course; easily by +2 health from the pigs and wheat. But its growth would be a bit stunted until we could clear some of the jungle.

The plains hill city, on the other hand, has 4 forest (+2 health) the lake still (+2 health) and 6 jungle (+2 unhealth at most, I'm not sure how it rounds). So that city would be able to grow to at least pop 4 unaided, at which point it would probably need more happiness as well as more health anyway.

I'm strongly leaning toward the plains hill site, and getting sugar later with a different city. Sugar requires Calendar to hook up anyway.

I wouldn't worry about missing Sugar now.

Hill tile is good, especially for a city near the Hordes border. We can fortify a couple or Archers there at +50% protection.

We should also move the Worker to the 3rd city after it finishes the wheat at Fort Sierra and let Alpha Base produce another worker or two.

Re: Rush the worker, I was thinking he should mine & road the gold - lots of commerce, not to mention a +1 happy brought into the trade network - but yes, the current Fort Sierra worker should be able to shift down to the pony city eventually.

This is not the right thread to discuss worker movement, but what the heck.

Mining & roading the gold is great, but not the most immediate task for the worker. Reason being, FS is not connected to AB, so even if you mine the gold, it will still need roads on several tiles before the gold can be connected. It's better IMHO to develop the food tile in the new city to allow the pop grows.

Once a new worker is built in AB, it can be used to road to FS and then mine the gold. Then we will get lots of commerce $$$$ and therefore faster research.

Plains hill (4 of the ponies) okay?

I posted about this previously and then edited it out for some reason. I think we should be trying to secure sugar as well within the radius of city number 3. I would vote for the grass hill south of the little pond.

We shall soon have iron working to help clear out the jungle, and we currently have access to four different resources to alleviate pollution.
