  • Leave/Absence Thread

I suggested creating a leave/absence thread for the team, so here it is.

I suggest we just record the date of departure, place you're going (if you want to make people jealous) and date of return (expected).

Search parties will be sent out at UnO's & Kloreep's expense if you are AWOL for more than a week.

    So I am the first:
Date of Dep: Jan 30, 2006
Date of Arr: Feb 3, 2006
Where: The tropical paradise of West Africa.

Comment: Other teammates will be forgiven for breathing a sigh of relief at my absence - provided they decide all the fiddly bits before I return.

I was gone all weekend due to a record breaking snow storm knocking out the home phone lines, and thus my dial-up connection.

UnO, are you really still on dial-up? I'm pulling out my hair here on my parent's 256k DSL. I miss my 8Mb cable so bad.

Yep, Dial up in the home.

The only other option is a cable modem, but the cable company and I don't get along too well. Dedicated T1 from work though.

Interesting, I'm a CSR for Comcast here in Denver. Let me know if there's anything I can do for you.

One very bad experience with a CSR and their manager really pissed me off is all. They dropped the Disney channels and Cartoon Network from their cable package here a few years ago for a short time. I called to see what, if anything, I could do to get them back, as probably 90% of the time the TV is on one of those for the kids. Different plan, pay extra, upgrade to digital, etc, I didn't care. The CSR was extremely rude to me, I asked for the manager to log a complaint, and the manager told me to buzz off (in a more colorful language). So, I did.

I bought Direct TV the next day, now couldn't live without the Sunday Ticket. And any problems we've had to call them about has been fixed while we were still on the phone with them.

It just so happens DSL is not cost efficient, hence I don't list it as an option.

While I am not absent, I am unlikely to have my copy of Civ IV prior to 2/19. It has been loaned to my brother for a few weeks now as he's been on bedrest after an operation. His wife decided to just buy him a copy though. I'll see him Sunday for sure.

Also, if I am absent suddenly this week it is due to my fish having contracted a mysterious disease.

                      Yes, I said fish.

I hope your brother and the bonzai "pelagics" get well soon.

No, that's on a backburner, because, while we "didn't have the money for it" my wife went and spent that same amount on a different theme for the room...

I'm considering ways to get the tank to match, but have got to figure out what the hells going on first. Not in any books and no experts have been able to identify it either. Given that there has been no introduction of new fish for a year, it can be boiled down to bad water, bad food, or bad filtration.

If something new has been added to our city water supply without our knowledge, it's pretty hopeless. However, the kid's tank is showing no signs I've acquired new food, perhaps it was contaminated, but again that doesn't explain why the kid's tank is showing no signs. Filtration is new and should not be a problem, but will be replaced anyway.

                            It's all baffling.

Women are like that. Always spending money on the luxuries of life (like food, clothing, electricity) and leaving nothing for the necessities (like booze, ammo, new guns).

We now have cats. We had Koi fishies in the outdoor ponds, many Koi fishies, many Koi fishes, many weekends spent digging new ponds into new shapes etc "because they would integrate the gardens and the decks so well"(huh!). Like I say, we now have cats. I told her you can't own cats and fish, but would she listen?

Anyway, good luck. Real trauma is not knowing what's wrong with your pets.
