I was thinking about the subject of charging for promotions. I'm not sure exactly what numbers we'll want to use, but it occured to me that we will probably want to charge by the unit's experience level, as to us, a 8 exp. unit is more valuable than a 6 exp. unit. Problem is, as far as rentals go, those two are probably worth nearly the same in the eyes of our customers, since they equal out to the same number of promotions.

So, I propose that we have a combination system for this where units cost more with each promotion they have gained, but the rebate for keeping them alive increases with each xp point a unit has when returned.

      Sounds complicated.

I agree it would be really cool. I'm just not sure I want to be doing the work...

        Great Let the war begin

A point of great relevance of the other game to this new game is ...... your Mercs team is so far behind in Techs ! We are 6 techs ahead of you ! 2 of these techs are military techs ! Are you having difficuilty getting techs in that game ? How are you going to makeother teams trade techs with us in this game ?

We planned on an extremely odd approach to techs in the other game. Let's leave it at that for now.

I don't suspect we'll be following that plan here.

I'm not very fond of complicated contract scheme. They're too easy to mess up. But if we do adopt a complicated scheme, we need to keep it internal. If we advertise exactly how we price things two things will happen:

            1) It will turn off the casual civ who just wants a few mercs and doesn't want the hastle of trying to find the best gold for the needs.

            2) It will encourage psycho detail oriented anal types to figure out the best possible sales angle, or to ask for very specific exceptions, exclusions, adjustments, and so forth ... and then will result to arguing about the math because one of us didn't read all the math right.

K.I.S.S needs to be our ultimate goal. In an ideal world, I want a civ to PM us and say, "Hey, we want to know how much it will be to hire you guys to attack Bob?" and we would say, "we have the following units available. You can rent them for the following prices. You tell us where you want them, and we'll take care of the rest."

I want to make it as easy for our customers as possible.

Another technical issue with dealing with both sides in a conflict is that we can't make deals with someone we are at war with.

So we are marching our stack through team B's territory on behalf of team A. Team B contacts us looking for some units (to go after team A's native units). But since we are at war with team B we can't make any deals. We can't exchange cash, we can't gift units, we can't stack our units with his.

If we wanted to temporarily declare peace so we could make the deal all of team A's mercs would be booted from team b's territory.

Another way of trying to make it work is if team B wanted to hire our units to make a counter attack against team A behind his lines. However if we had any of team A's mercs inside of team A's territory they would be expelled as soon as we declared war with team B's units.

I'm all in favor of the concept, I'm just looking to make it work with the game mechanics.
