  • Grand Summit thread

This thread is ware I'll post updates and hopefully the log from the upcoming 3 way meeting with Bananas and Gathering Storm. We might even make it a re-occuring thing say every month or so.

I've sent them each messages proposing tenitive times of Saturday night for the North American time zone which coralates to 3:00 - 5:00 GMT sunday morning.

If anyone else would like to attend that would be great, but we should make shure were re-hersed so as not to say anything contradictory.

    Will you be using mIRC?

I must admit, last time I installed it, I got utterly confused, though Im no pc-noob.

mIRC is relatively easy to use.

I'll try to dig up a simple 'tutorial' on how to connect to the poly server. I'm guessing we'll set up a secret, passworded channel there.

My proposal is that we draft up a list of what we can and can't say (with maybe a bit of leniency, depending on what they reveal). That way we don't risk anything secret being slipped out.

We might also want to set up a list of things to discuss. Tech-trading will probably be included, and you can trust GS to mention a 3-way alliance. This is something that we should stall: proposing to set up a 3-way cooperation pact, and signing a NAP for the 45 turns it'll take us to get on their doorstep, and then starting to discuss the terms of the 3-way alliance.

I strongly recommend at least 2 of us there, who should be consulting each other through queries if anything else comes up. Further participation is encouraged, but no more than two should speak up on our behalf. Rather than have 3+ query windows open, we could set up another secret, private channel for us to discuss in.

I'll do my best to be there, but I might have better things to do (I am in Milano ATM)

Here's the mIRC tutorial, fairly simple and basic, but enough to get connected. It's from a defunct D&D-through-irc game we had at MZO. If you can't see it (maybe you need to register) just yell and I'll copy-paste it here:

Thanks, N35t0r, have fun (I heard italian girls are quite nice ).

nd signing a NAP for the 45 turns
This better we do not - the Bananas will ask why not sign with them too..

It's a 3-way summit, the nanas are included. This will ease their minds. In any case, we might want to do something like 15 turn NAP, for the moment, and after the 15 turns sign a 30 turn one...

45 turns is the expected ETA for the invasion, right?

We might even state it now... first a 15 turn nap while we work out what should be in the alliance deal, then a 30-turn nap when it finishes, with the preliminaries in place (begining of tech-trading and such), and a ratification after those 30 turns, after which it'll be a permanent alliance at least until other continents fall.

Give me a time and I can be there hopefully.

All I have to do is reinstall mIRC and set it up.

If we sign a NAP, it should really end on the attack ETA.

If it ends too soon, we'll reveal our intentions by not signing a new pact.
If it ends too late, they have more time to prepare a solid defense.

However, I would certainly not propose such thing ourselves. If the other teams ask, I agree we cannot tell them "no, we won't take a NAP, cause we plan to rush the nanas". In that case, try to agree on 15-year renewal type NAPs. 25-year will give both of us 5 year extra (ie: bigger war) 20-year means we have to rush ourselves to finish on time. 10-years and we can do both.

Most important issues right now (should be solved privately with GS and Banana before the summit starts) :
=> map trading with GS. Does our map have any added value for GS above the banana-map (I think GS and Banana will have traded maps already) ?
=> Ask the bananas for a formal response on our tech proposals. They still have not answered our message about dropping writing from our side to make the deal even. How dedicated to Alphabet are they?

A 3-way tech deal with GS could mean Bananas are more encouraged to research Alphabet than they are currently.

I won't be at the chat though, much too early (it'll be 5-7 am here in Belgium). Are all the diplomats for the 3 teams in the American timezone ?

A parallel private team-AC channel is certainly a good option if there are more than 2 AC members at the chat. Be aware for people who take on another name on IRC. Are the Apolyton IRC server logins linked to the forum logins ? If not, and you see somebody as PJayTycy, it's probably not me

Yeah, the further we are from anything that ties us up or reveals our plans, the better, so we should be very careful about what we propose, or propose as little as we can

Of course. I'm just almost sure GS will propose a 3-way alliance. And rather than saying no, we should say yes but.

Well, one can always say that 'for such an important decision, you need teams' approval, but you think they'll agree'.

Thinking of GS as a defensive commercial civ, which it possibly is aiming for, I can imagine them wanting alliance, but from the other side, if they ever plan military action themselves (which I bet they will be up to at some point), they wont want to tie up too much.
Also, being good on defense up until late classical era, they have less need for defensive alliances than most others.

I think they surely will be keen on open borders for trading purposes.

Yah, but we can't hang on 'we still need our team's aproval' for 45 turns...

As for GS, I'd say that cooperation is the best way to go. Otherwise, it goes down to waiting to contact the other continent and hope they side with us against GS, and since in the best of cases it'll still be us who take the brunt of the attack, I'd say it's a better idea to side with GS against the other continent. They will probably agree to this as well. And if we do, anything short of full cooperation is giving the other side extra chances to beat us.

Trying to make the chat around midday US time would be better for Euros (most of our team), IMHO.

I agree on the cooperation thing, but it's probably best mentioned in 2-way chat than 3..

In the 3-way chat, it'll be 3-way cooperation, but it won't be proposed by us. We're a cautious and a bit paranoid group :tass:

Ok, lets wait then and see what happens. Im somewhat skeptical on GS proposing 3 way cooperation, seeing how they remarked, they feel a bit cramped down there but we'll be ready if that happens.
