I'd do it, but I'm 11000 KM from my copy of Civ4

      Wow that far?!?

I have a civ4-sim from some turns ago, but for testing working plots, whipping moments, production completeness etc... I use an excell sheet, where I can more easily switch workers and see the result. It's not guaranteed to adhere 100% to the civ4 rules, that's why I didn't post it yet.

My previous guestimate included moving a citizen from working a hamlet to being an engineer (immediately after forge is completed). After our whip, we won't be able to support 5 people for 10 turns anyway, due to the hapiness limit. A granary makes us grow easier, but we'll be at our hapiness limit almost all the time anyway.

[new post because I can't add attachments with quick reply]

This one is not completed yet. It's the one I used when we started the forge, to test different whipping scenarios. It has most of our main city layout. The current production etc... can be changed in the worldbuilder, but to set the correct current amount of hammers/food/tech/culture/... acquired, somebody will have to open up the python console and set them.

I am leaving this weekend, so I don't have time to finish it myself, but I hope it will be easier for somebody to adapt it to the current turn than to start from scratch.

Unhappy citizens produce two food when a worker or a settler is under production. So there's no need to artifically limit our growth after the whipping. We could build a granary for a couple turns; when we grow to size 5 switch to settler production until the whipping unhappiness wears off; and then switch back to finish the granary.

              Interesting idea.

How long it takes the decay to kick in btw?

Okay, I guess this plan is good then.

Unless we can get a better result by restraining growth (which would depend on how high we value GPP's from an engineer), I guess it looks OK...

You mean they just feed themselves and so there's no real difference with or without them ? Or do you mean they produce +2 for themselves and +2 for the settler ?

They just feed themselves. So there's no advantage in letting our pop grow, but neither should we do everything in our power to prevent growth as I had the impression Impaler suggested. Eg I'd consider continue working a five food tile better than eg a 1-2-0 forest, because that means we can immediately start with a fifth working citizen after the unhappiness wears off.
