There's 4 plains hills, and AFAIK fresh water only needs to be inside the city radius...

Fresh water *definitely* needs to be adjacent to the city.

        move warrior on a hill
move settler in best direct, say fresh water, if any is seen.
        research BW

fugly start, but i presume it will be better later on(or else everyone has bad starts)

btw if you zoom way in on the coastal tile, it looks like a river.
then again i have not paid attention to such details in c4

So how do we make this decision? Equally importantly, how do we prevent the wrong decision being made?

What is our current game plan? Do we want a heavy production capital?

Personally, I would rather a money capital hence my request that we haul ass.
To me, it looks like that going south west would support a higher population, but this can only be determined if we move the warriors south west first.

can we ask snoopy to do that move already? warrior sw, we would lose it in the game, but we can shorten our turn-time for the first turn a lot.

The not having an money capital will hurt a bit yes, we will need to find a money spot asap and place a second city there. Preferably down the river

The blue South of the plain hill is definately the sea:

Look at the hill next the river lower centre and compare it to what we can see of our plains hill. The little river delta is the same.

This means if we move SW we'll end up one square from the sea, which is bad (right?) I'm sticking to my idea of moving onto a plains hill and going production.

I'd rather have a money capital too senethro, but we have to play the hand we're dealt. We can build a settler fast this way and go found a financial city somewhere else.

Sorry you're right it could be fresh water. Even more reason to stay away from it

Whats wrong with a Fresh Water lake? Its an easy 2/0/3 which would be a massive boost to our research if we decide to go for a religion.

What's the benefit of going SW ? There's no hill there... Is there a particular tile you want to see that won't be visible from moving SE (on a hill) ?

Very much so. Our city doesn't have enough food for my liking. I'm hoping that SW will reveal a much more grasslandy area, ripe for cottaging.

Spamming cottages all around means not enough food as well.

the river is important for trading, generating cash, and eventualy irrigation if we need more food. on the east we can't see nothing but hills ...

My problem with freshwater is that it's about as good as a cottage next to a river, except it'll never grow and we won't get the +1 Hammer later in the game (from civics).
