my idea:
found on spot,
start worker
working food plains
and start resarching bw
warrior follows river
-
It's a good start methinks:
forest
river
nearby hills (mines in perspective)
Chopping should be a good choice as the forest seems to extend at least one tile of visible area.

I don't like it.
I say if we found in spot that the capital becomes a production city, not a money city. Now depending on how you feel about such a thing, we can do it.
Personally, I would rather the warriors went one tile south-west and if the land looks promising, the settler follows them and founds on the grasslands/forest tile beside the river. It'll still be in range of the wine resource, some hills, the floodplains, but hopefully more grassland tiles for cottaging as well.

I would put the warrior on a hilltop first for some preliminary scouting before doing anything with the settler. Whether it be the forested hill northwest or one of those on the east. (southeast has my preference)
You know, that river seems to run around that plains hills 2 tiles south and one west. Looks a good defensive spot. Too bad its out of range for the wine.

I suggest moving the warrior NW, and then re-evaluating re placement of base. Where we are seems to pretty much suck - it's not coastal, nor does it appear to have prime resources. Perhaps two south might be better. We'll know more when the warrior has moved.
Also this start position leads itself to bronze working as our first tech. There's no point in the wheel immediately, unless we have something to hook up to our capital. The wine can stay unroaded for a long time to come.
I'd suggest BW -> Wheel -> Pottery.
With regard to city placement, moving anywhere will require we don't place our base on the first turn, as if we move south, we are NOT going to place our base on our only flood plain square, so we'd need to move two south to the desert (Also coastal, possibly a good option). It's possible this square contains an oasis or incense though, so it may be a bad option too.
North, we shouldn't found on the wine as that's a waste later on. Any other move is a 2-move-point move, so we will need a compelling reason to move, such as seeing wheat when we move onto the hill with our warrior. In that case, I'd think about founding on the lone hill NW.Play hangman.

You need to look at the borders of the tiles. The hills tile SSE from our location has a desert coloured border to it's west, i.e. SS of us. That tells us of the desert there.
The river stops SWSW of us, as the plains hill has a blue border to is south. That's a lake at least, and more likely coast.Play hangman.

Move the warrior SE or NW.
My take on the available squares if we settle here:
0gpP0
gPpPP
gggPG
ggfGg
0PdP0
(I'm not sure about hills/no-hills on the left and right sides)
0 = outside radius
g = grassland
p = plains
f = floodplains
d = desert (or also floodplains?)
CAPS = on hill
This starting location has a lot of production possibillity for starting (forests and hills), but once the hills are cleared, we have lots of grassland next to a river to be irrigated (turning to a specialist/great person city). It is no financial spot though.no sig

And it sure is a production spot. Will come handy if we're up to a wonder race.

wait chaunk, are you sure 2 south is a desert. rivers cause flood plains along diagonals too I think. You can see the way the green of the flood plain goes around to connect with the hill.
Also I think this is a fairly decent money spot, it has a river which is really all you need. The wine is just a bonus. That said, given our strengths I think it's obvious we should concentrate on production. A few cottages by the river won't hurt though.
Moving to the plains hill with the settler appeals to me a lot. Losing a turn means nothing as we're not going for early religions, 50% more hammers in the early game is very powerful for an industrious civ.

i think the plains hill has no fresh water
and i think rivers give flood plains as diagonal too
