I usually play on monarch and I am usually pretty much ahead in GNP and a little in the front technology-wise. My insufficient military is usually hard pressed to repel Isabella, the Khans, Alexander and all the other bullies.

I guess this doesn't quite answer the OP's question though...

I've played alot of SP games but finished few.
"Learn to overcome the crass demands of flesh and bone, for they warp the matrix through which we perceive the world. Extend your awareness outwards, beyond the self of body, to embrace the self of group and the self of humanity. The goals of the group and the greater race are transcendent, and to embrace them is to achieve enlightenment."

I'm well, alive, kicking butt, and ahead on my first prince game. Started as the inca (randomly selected) alone on an island (luckily it had plenty of resources), with all other 6 civs on the main continent. My navi can kick all other navie's ass (I just destroyed Kathy's navy, as she attempted an invasion, and sent over 7 fully-loaded galleons to the bottom of the ocean. Those of her troops which did manage to land were promptly slaughtered, (although I did temporarily lost a city while I rushed an army, as the few combat troops I had were on the other side of the world.)

I've taken half of her empire already

I'm currently battling Emperor level difficulty. I'm only making headway as praet-rushing Romans.

Yeah, I'm already diving into futuristic mods.

Yeah, same here. I even fired up SP SMAC for the first time in a while today. The problem with Civ4 is that I just can't customise it very much. All my empires end up very, very similar. Just for something to do I had a look at the building XML file to see how much a know-nothing like me could do for the C4:AC implementation of facilities.
