    Yup...

So we need a playful RP response, if we are going to bother with one at all.

I'd be tempted to run with "We're creepy little *****es intent on spoiling Vox fun".

    Or some nonsense like:
Our Warrior is named spinebreaker. Your scout showed considerable spine in it's movements. It was like an invitation. Exactly like an invitation.

    Or:
"Take your fun away? Sometimes you have fun, sometimes the fun has you!"

So if someone is good at RP which doesn't give anything away, then we should respond like that. Or... we just don't respond. Or be very vague, we're annoyed at them and their attempt at scouting us has made us very suspicious.

Blame it on Thugeus and Shaman Ralphog.
The greatest delight for man is to inflict defeat on his enemies, to drive them before him, to see those dear to them with their faces bathed in tears, to bestride their horses, to crush in his arms their daughters and wives.

          Or... we just don't respond.

We should send something tough, even if it is total bs.

            Dear Voxaroni:

We know that your Scout's attempt at fornicating with Spinebreaker (our warrior) is acceptable in your nation, but we don't tolerate that Crap here in Stormia!

You keep your sick same-sex beliefs well away from here! Or you will face the wrath of the Storm!

              Short sighted effects:
Congratulations. Your inability to think things through at this early stage of the game has cost both our Civilizations all pretense of winning the game. Warriors are not the units to fight with; yet, because because of your short sightedness, that is percisely what we are bonking our heads with, infrastructure be damned. I hope that the Civ that wins will look kindly upon us in the history books.
I've been thinking more about this. It wouldn't kill us to stop and think about the possibility of an alliance. There are surely strong benefits and complementary aspects to our teams/civs that could work to our mutual long-term advantage. I think it merits discussion anyways, before we commit completely to a long-term war with possiliby unrecoverable consequences.

I'm not sure you're wrong, dejon, but I'd like to see how it goes for a few turns before changing tack.

Ofcourse they'll be saying things like that, we are at an advantage here. Early wars can be costly, but sometimes they can also be cheaper than to wait for your opponent to build a huge machine of war that will require a lot of effort to take down. Besides, as nye pointed out, lets wait for a bit and see how this turns out, if it seems to costly to take them down, we have at least slowed down their expansion a lot and put ourselves in a good bargaining position.

I think we need to wait for AH, at least. If we've got both skirmishers and horsies, they're toast. For the moment, we won't gain anything by accepting peace...

As to long term alliances: we tried that before with Vox... without more known of the world, we really can't decide. In a few months time things might be different, and I trust them enough to not be overly rancorous. They didn't hold grudges in last game, so why now?

The only reason I can think of to seek an alliance in the near future is if we find another Civ close-ish on our landmass. We'd want to make it a 2v1 with us on the majority - although it wouldn't matter if we allied with Vox or with the new Civ, so long as we were in the majority side.

But so long as its just us and Vox, our position is only going to get relatively better in the short-medium term. No need to bargain anytime soon!

                          Welcome back, MZ.

Some Civs are born Warmongers, some achieve Warmongery, others have Warmongery thrust upon them.

Vox's scout insulted Spinebreaker's mother so he got Zidaned. Vox also founded Hindiusm, which was an insanely provocative thing to do as we were about two turns away from it. On our river too, how dare they.

Btw, we should definitely name one of our warriors ZIDANE. No one will dare f*ck with him.

A good name for our first Skirm. Perhaps if we send a good stack over to Vox, they should all be called 'Smith'.

Well, we definitely need to be more creative with unit names this time around. The old GS really didn't put much thought in that.
