I see references here to building lumbermills and I recall Blake mentioning something on this in the Stategy threads.

Lumbermills take something like 12 turns to build and, when we get rail roads, a further 6 turns to build a railway for a 2/3/0 tile. The same tile value can be generate by chopping (5 turns) and workshop (9 turns) with State Property enacted. For 4 fewer worker turns we therefore get 45 hammers extra from the chop.

Yes, it is true, but it is also a static analisys; I mean it supposes the

things (here, workshop/lumbermill) are perfect. And to that is needed

all the techs and improvements. Not so in our game.

Begining with current situation till the end, concerning outputs of a

      flat grass:

Workshop: now -1F+2H; with Chemistery -1F+3H; with Communism+

      State Property 0F+3H.

      Lumbermill: now 0F+1H; with Replaceable Parts+Lumbermill 0F+2H;

      with Railroad+railroad 0F+3H.

Same end but different ways; workshops have negative food still a

lot of turns; and our cities cannot afford it.

      We must stick with lumbermills.

      Best regards,

Small Correction: lumbermill now = +0H - we can't build them

lumbermill + replaceable parts = +1H - we can build them

So what are the current research priorities?

        I can see

        Banking
        Music (lightbulb Nationalism)
        Military Tradition
        Replaceable Parts
        Chemistry

We might also want to throw in Economics for the GM

After that, is it not implied that we would Beeline for Communism?

I know this really belongs in an MoF thread but since it also impacts on the decision to keep lots of forest rather than trade them now for production I'll post here.

        Comparative research techs would be

Constitution - Opens up Democracy and Corporation

Democracy - Statue of Liberty (nice but we little rush to build. Also opens up civics which we already have or do not need

Corporation - Gain a trade route for inland cities. Lose one in coastal cities. Also allows Wall Street but we are a long way from being ready to build this.

Steam Power - Coal appears and workers are faster.

Right. When I said (wrongly) the first time lumbermill was the grass

forest tile, where the lumbermill will go to.

About research, just my liking: Banking,Replaceable Parts,Music,

          lightbulb Nationalism,Military Tradition, (Gunpower,Economics?

Economics,Gunpower?); after, a lot to be said.

          But, MOF will say better.

          Best regards,
