  • Settling the islands

Looking at the world now it seems there are plenty of islands to the east of Concordia that we may like to settle for strategic purposes to gain a significant upper hand against subsequent attempts by our more advanced rivals to do the same.

It will take a little while for settlers to get there and we'll also want to send a strong military - longbow, mace, knight - and a few workers too.

If our boats/explorers can find a good location then I would put one of those places ahead of settling the small island to our south west - though we should do that also.

MTTT has upset the apple-cart there with his promise of El Dorado.

From a strategic view, I was looking at the island south of the Romans. That way we can start contesting the area over there before any of them can make the leap. I know this is not entirely in line with our current strategic direction and I can see other commitments that we might also have (eg conversion, banks, universities).

So perhaps this is something that will have to wait till we have had our first hit at the Indians.

Indeed. I was thinking using the island west of Maurayan as a staing point, but maybe we can make the jump without this?

That island there is good and one that we should settle. But it is well within our existing sphere of control and easy to settle "cheaply" (one settler + defender). Workers can also be "ferried-over" quite easily and back to Concordia as needed.

The further the distance the more time-consuming it will be to send all the units we need there. I can't say I've seen an ideal site for a city yet but there must be somewhere with fresh-water, trees and resources out there.

I think a long term expedition to the Gem Island is well worth the effort. The Horse Island next to it isn't too shabby either and should be explored at length.
