  • Using our religions

There are a number of benefits we make from using a religion. Since we are currently building wealth with some of our cities we’ve definitely got some spare production capacity in Concordia which can build us the missionaries so this is unlikely to be a serious issue.

    Benefits from civics

There are two (or three) civics that we can use which will increase our city yields. These are

    Organised religion

This will give us extra production for buildings. This would be of marginal benefit because we do not have a large number of buildings to finish and the benefit only comes when the religion is widespread.

It’s one major benefit is that it allows us to spread a religion without building monasteries.

    Pacifism

The religion does not have to be spread far and wide to get the benefits here. This would give us a big boost to GP production with just one city converted. No point in switching to Pacifism until Povo Este has been converted.

    Theology

This would precede a build up for war but the spread of the religion can be limited to those cities building units so no need again for any wide spreading of religion

    Happiness

The happiness benefits from religion are small given that liberalism will give these benefits anyway. However, even for liberalism, we still need to have spread the religion for is to give us any benefit. Furthermore, since monasteries are obsoleted by Scientific Method, we have to start building some soon.

    Diplomacy

There is, as yet, no clear statement of where we want to drive our international politics. Now that we have met everyone, there’s no reason why we should not now determine who will be our friends and trading partners. Religion can be a good way of cementing these relationships.

Religions arrived late at Concordia. And our problems are not

prodution related but commerce, even with its recent boost.

So, religion can be very important to us.

Civics whose benefits depends on state religion are now very

questionable; but Free Religion, when possible, is very interesting

and brings no other costs than the anarchy.

The great benefit is hapiness and the hapiness from 3 religions can

be considerable. Obviously, spread is needed.

Free Religion is the only one with no penalties to diplomacy; and

that is good, not because we fear any civ, but because the trade

    routes are a good help,very good,indeed.

Gold: not to forget; just Bombay can give it and most of the people

    said wanted to go there.

And all that leads to the last and biggest question: SPREAD.

The benefits of spread come (outside of state religion, which I think

undesirable now) with Liberalism and/or Bombay; and confucianism

should the one to be first as it gives the same plus gold; but, it

only can come from a small, just starting, city; and any of the

    "natural" cities to make the subsequent spread have another rel;

so, the missionary can fail; so, more prudent, still, to build first a

forge in the small city; and the imediate spread, helps the civ owner

of Bombay; we can begin spread one,or even two, of the other

religions, things would become easier, but the later spread of conf.

more dificult, and we gain nothing until Liberalism.

And what's the timings of Liberalism researched and Bombay

    conquested?

Every choice has a price. And, by sure, a coordenated decision is

    needed.

    Best regards,

I agree with Fed; wait until we have enough cities with multiple religions to make Free Religion worth while and then switch to it.
