  • New cities in our continent

Two new cities were proposed in our continent:

    a) 8999 from The Valley: coastal, enough food, reasonable hammers

    and commerce;

    b) 9996 from Bananaburg: reasonable food and commerce, modest

    hammers,also coastal.

The importance, and goal, of said cities is strategic:

In peace times to avoid other civs settle in our continent or have an

easy beach head, at war to serve as ports to our navy.

I think these new cities would help Concordia and I would like to

    know what you think about.

    Best regards,

Would someone please explain the numerical shorthand for directions. Many thanks.

The number pad on the keyboard is as such:
      Code:
       7 8 9
       4 5 6
       1 2 3
The numbers match the directions on the compass... thus you'll never see an order for a unit to travel in the direction of 5.

      9996 (or 9-9-9-6) would be 3 tiles NE then 1 tile E

            Filling in the edges

I heartily agree with the placement of these cities. These should be the next two as soon as possible.

We should also incorporate Mauryan into our nation. Yes, a training ground does have its point, but if someone else takes it out then, they then have a foothold on our continent.

I would also recommend three additional cities along the southern tier.

A good city could be built 1144 from Apolyton on the horses. It would be able to work clams, rice and sheep for food. These redundant resources could also be available for trade with other nations. Hammers would be available from working not harvesting the forests. Commerce would be available from the coasts. A jack of all trades kind of city that could provide support to any national endeavor.

A fair city could be built 2222221 from Apolyton. This would give us access to furs and whales (not yet but eventually) for the first time. It could be self sufficient (in a little time.) Once self sufficient it would contribute a little here and there to national efforts.

A poor city could be built 8899 from Zoidburg. There are two purposes for this city. The most important is with time it will give us access to copper. It will also help clear fog of war without positioning a unit east of Zoidburg.

All three cities also provide the strategic purpose of clearing fog of war, the breeding gound for barbarians. They also block other nations from founding cities in those areas.

As I have said before, if we have more Concordians, even if they are less efficient than citizens of other nations, we can still out produce other nations.

Yes, I think the 2 new city sites that fed proposes are definitely worth the time and effort to settle them. Best to do it sooner rather than later and then we will be better prepared to build our Armada.

With regards to other possible city sites, I think 2-2-2-1 of Apolyton and 1-1-1-2-2 of Apolyton as this gives 2 well balanced cities, each with 3 resources and a minimum of useless tiles (ie ice).

Definitely support the one for the sheep and clams site. That's a nice city, even if it does just get used for specialists while we have Rep.

Further cities in the north should be delayed until after the Forbidden Palace is built + Courthouse in Povo Este. Each new city is now costing us a lot.

Minister FeMme I suspect a typo. If both of those directions are off of Apolyton the two cities would have 10 overlapping squares.

I also try to factor in using all squares when possible. Your suggested 2211 from Apolyton misses the clam and rice that my 1144 from Apolyton would have within the city radius.

Yes, you are quite right Chuckman, I have made a grave typing error!

The 2 sites I meant were 4-4-4-1 of Apolyton and 1-1-1-2-2 of Apolyton, sharing 2 squares only, with the former sharing 2 additional squares with Apolyton.

                          My two cents:

Site 1 would give us Whales, clams and deer.

Site 2 would give us Rice, clams, horses and sheep

Site 3 would give us fur and deer and (eventually) copper.

Site 4 would be a poor city indeed. Only a deer on the ice and marble. But it would fill out our empire in the extreme south-west, thus releasing the horseman on fog removal here.

                              New cities

Do we have some idea when the cities will be founded. If we are building all three soon then the relative benefits or 1,2 or 3 are less meaningful

If there is a delay between the first and second, then I actually think site 3 might be most advantageous for Concordia as whole. It gives us access to fur which is a resource we do not have and will produce +2 happy in most of our cities. I would also consider moving site 3 south one tile. It adds the copper resource much sooner and the only tiles we lose are those which it would have to share anyway.

I had thought it might be an idea to also shift 2 north one tile so that we can work the horse. But since this would lose the sheep, your site looks the best and one that can develop resonably well as a city in its own right.

For me site 1 is the least attractive of the three.
