  • Beware tech trading too soon

We’re on the verge now of being able to trade techs again and can use this to acquire lots of those which we have missed out on until now. But with this comes some danger which we should be aware of before we jump at the first opportunity. The first test will come when we meet the French - I believe they will be our first port of call.

We know there are two nations out there but there will probably be more – not sure what the total number is and maybe someone can help here. Until we meet the other nations we will not know what the tech trading opportunities are as a whole. Better to trade with fuller knowledge than with limited knowledge. There are in fact two big danger with taking the easy option to trade at the first opportunity.

    1) We do not know the relationship between “France” and “India”. By trading with one we could acquire some bad blood with the other and they might refuse to trade with us or give us open borders.
    2) If we trade with one without the knowledge of the other then we could give away a tech to the first nation which it can then trade with the second. If we do this we lose the opportunity to trade that tech to the second nation ourselves and so lose ground from tech trading.

Of course, there comes a point when we will want to start trading just to get a useful tech. But I would certainly advise caution and restraint and only do so after we have managed to scout around their continent a bit.

Out of interest, does the explorer with Woods II or Hills II get four moves in this version of the game or has that little bug been corrected with the current patch?

I don't believe it's a 'bug'. Woodman II grants double move in forest, even to a 2 move unit. So, yes, you get 4 moves.

It's especially fun with Impi in Warlords...

Does your posting here mean that you're going to vote in the elections?

If I told you it wouldn't be "lurking" now would it?

True... However, if lurking obviously doesn't stop you posting, then it shouldn't stop you voting either... especially since you are a member of the C4SPDG CivGroup.
