  • Official European release date

The official release of Civilization 4 in Europe is between October 28th and November 4th.

Holland and Belgium are scheduled for November 3rd.

I received this information from the official Take2 office in the Netherlands.

On the press release announcing the game went gold, there were two email addresses. I decided to send and email. It went all through Take2 sales organization, see transcript below. Pretty funny they think I am some kind of vip, lol.

    Hi All

I will get Warner Guinée to contact Remconius to give him a full update on Civilization in Europe. Warner will also be able to put him onto a contacts list that means he will get addition up to date information on any Civ related activity in his home country.
    Many thanks

    Hi Jason and James,

(Your email addresses were on the Yahoo news item)

Congratulation on the gold status of Civilization IV!

Together with the community we are very eager to get our copy of the game as soon as possible. We know the US release is Oct 25th, but I live in the Netherlands. I was looking at the option to order from the UK, but I am not sure if it is worth it as the release dates of other countries are not known.

Can you please tell me the official release dates for the Netherlands, UK (and other European countries)?

I hope you have a moment to answer this question. I will post the information on the various community forums to help out other eager Civ fans.

    Thanks a lot in advance!

    Kind Regards,
    Remconius

Nice one Remconius. So you will no doubt now be one of the first people to hear about things such as patches.

Never mind, if you don't follow the link on the
main CIV IV page, but do a search on amazon UK,
            it still says nov 4th...

It seems like the official release date in Norway is Nov 4th, but the shop I've preordered at still claims to have the game Oct 28th, so I guess some of the Net shops have connections.

I'm starting to think that only for a few hours it will be possible to purchase the game on the 28th, before the publisher pulls the shops back in line.

I just want to add... Why isnt the game released at the same time in Europe? Why does the software industry treat us as second class customers!?

If we werent all such junkies I'd suggest a boycott of buying civ4 until after christmas, just to hit 2k with poor last quarter earnings.

Not only that but the game is almost twice the price in norway compared to the US and UK. whats up with that? We're supposed to live in the globalized international age but buying a game from the US will cost almost as much as the game itself in shipping alone, not to mention apalling duties tolls and taxes just to make it worse. Please tell me what european country encourages international trade so I can move there.

In all fairness, I had a game last year (from an European publisher) and here on the continent we had it months before it hit NA due to the slack of the distributor there. We're not that bad off in that respect.

Next time the issue comes up in Norway, vote to join the EU... will do wonders in the toll aspect.

Ok, so that's one game... Sorry, but this kind of thing really annoys me. is about all I can do (and probably the most effective thing too).
