But now Im not sure what day I should take off, I may wait till thursday just to be sure
    Borders

    Which coffee? Pumpkin Spice?

And of course I did the same thing (use or lose vacation days) ...

Pumpkin Spice rocks! And the Borders by me has wireless internet.

Nice thing about going to Borders is the wife doesn't know where I am, so I shut off the cell phone and enjoy life.

Thats one of my hiding places when I just take off to avoid the wife, she hasn't figured it out yet

We all do, actually, it's a contract with TMobile. Sadly pumpkin spice was produced in New Orleans, so it's limited in availability now (they've stopped producing the backup supply they produced in the chicago-area plant) So buy some bags of it if ya can

They should be brewing some of the exotic blends in the next couple of weeks - Kenya Aa, Sumatra Mandeling, Guatemala Antigua. They're pretty good, especially the Kenya blend ...

Ah thats right you work at Borders! Great place I have been going there for years. I routinely drove from Bloomington, IN to the Sparta, Tomah area of Wisconsin one weekend a month for about 5 or 6 years. I had my Borders stops down pat. Bloomington, Champaign, IL and Madison, WI. On the way home Madison and Champaign (No Borders in Tomah, not much of ANYTHING in Tomah )

Have you ever tried playing CIV on a laptop while driving 70 to 75 miles per hour down I-39

              Borders

As for the game, I have to imagine that it will be Tuesday 10/25, simply because 99.99% of games are released on Tuesdays. Of course, it doesn't matter, as I won't be able to get it until Friday anyways...

                  EB Games shipping today(Friday 10/21)?

My order is showing "Open" with EB Games right now, which implies that they will be shipping today. Since it won't be delivered on the weekend, it SHOULD show up on Monday, which is the 24th.

EB Games is known for having games delivered on release day or a day or two earlier for those who use overnight shipping. I just hope the Gamestop merger won't put an end to that.

By major titles, i mean around 1,000 titles a year ... and in the Music industry, EVERY title (well, every title from the major labels) has a specific date it's allowed to be out on ...

... yet in computer games, they don't know what day it'll be out on even a week before release
The issue with games is that the QA process is always a big issue, and up until the last minute, a game-stopping bug may be discovered which needs to be addressed prior to release. But one thing you forget is the "gone gold" announcement that many developers make. Once a game has gone gold, release is only a matter of weeks away, and a release date should be available.

Think about how that differs from books and music, which have the primary work complete many months in advance. I don't know how long it takes to go from the author's "final" version of a book to printing to distribution, but I expect that it's longer than the time it takes for a computer game to be reproduced, packaged, and shipped.

Of course, with the music industry, the process of recording each track is done over time, so of course the release of a new album is going to be more transparent and a release date will be made available long before it's shipped. The recording industry is a VERY different animal compared to books and computer programs.

One thing that has to be said is that I've seen a lot of problems with QA in printed books, just as we see with computer programs. Clear "typo" issues, or pages that are very faded because of a low ink issue when that page was printed. What do you do except bring it back and get a new copy, right?

Mine is showing Open as well. I am having mine shipped to the store rather than the house though so I suspect that I won't be able to pick it up until the 25th even if it does arrive on the 24th...

Im in Australia and order through EB in the US. My order is also showing open. Open though means your order has been processed (paid for) and now its is only awaiting the product arrival for shipping. I hope you are right and they ship a few days early for pre-orders but i doubt it. Maybe ship on the 24th earliset. But i would sure like to be proved wrong on this point.

I don't understand all of this October 24th, or even October 25th, talk. If the game "ships on" Tuesday October 25th, then the earliest I'd think we could have the game would be Wednesday the 26th.

A day off probably isn't a bad idea...but I just don't know when the thing is due out

                                I agree

but it helps to talk it up bringing a crescendo to the anxiety when you come to after the climax it will be here
