Well, I figure if it doesn't ship by that Friday, I'll just cancel the preorder, and get the game from the local EB Games (if they have the special preorder edition, of course).

Well, it's not on the site anymore, but I think I have read on the previous civ4 site (you know, the brown one with very littlt info) that production of the pre-order version would stop on Release day (R-day )
But even now it's not on the current site anymore, would you take the risk?

Nah... it only shows stupidity of mankind.

you are so right. I'm very happy that I pre-ordered last weekend. I know it's only 5 dollars, but it still makes me feel good that I ordered through Poly at the lower price.

I'm not that silly. I'd check the status, then I'd buy the game before I go home and cancel the preorder. .
My EBGames is like 5 minutes away from me (if that).

Then why does Poly list 24 ...
24 is the release day, e.g. when the game is released to retailers
so release day doesnt necessarily mean that you're going to a shop 9:00 am on October 24 and you'll find the game. nor does it mean that if you have pre-ordered with 1-day-shipping that they will ship it on the 23rd so that you have it next morning....
it's only 18£, which is 31.83 USD and from the looks of it, it has free shipping, maybe even to continental europe!
With free shipping indeed, it would only cost €29 delivered to continental Europe. That seems like a ridiculously low price, if everyone else sells it for at least €40, usually plus shipping costs. Almost too good to be true...
I am living in Hong Kong and just found, disappointedly, that I cannot order from Amazon because it won't ship outside US. Does anybody know if and how I can get a copy of the pre-order edition? If it cannot be done, could somebody tell me when I can get a regular one?

I suppose this just goes back to my issue with computer games not being like books/music ... with both of the above, the retailers have the items weeks ahead of time usually, but aren't allowed to release the item until *release day*.
Do computer games simply not work that way? Does TakeTwo not send out the game ahead of time to the various retailers?? If so, WHY?? Book laydowns and Music release dates are so neat and orderly, you know when to go get your item, and all retailers have an even chance at getting the item on time ...

There is a computer mart in Wan Chi, not far from the subway terminal that will have it. Most of the stalls there have hardware, but there is one stall on the west wall (lower level) that has software. They always had the (legit) US versions of games within a couple days of them hitting the market back in the States. For big titles they always had the special editions, albeit only a couple of them on hand.
