Would definately need to be previewed to ensure fair starts, though.

Playing around reloading some map types and ran into some interesting patterns on tilted axis. About one in every 5 regenerate on tilted, low sea level, massive continents, yields something like this:

One continuous hunk of land around the planet...

About 1-10 yields a more uniform hunk of land:

I'ld much prefer either of these to a standard pangea.

As for the archipelago map I was talking about, they are much farther between. Low sea level, snakey continents, took me 20 regenerations to get one that had 3 landmasses, and one of those was 'cut off' as no galley transport with a sea tile in between. (yes, culture could have easily bridged the gap) I know I've got pangea-esque ones before where there was 1 continent where everyone started and a few outlying islands, but they must be awful few and far between without some editting.

FYI, Inland Sea with wrapping is possible. One must set Cylindrical World Wrap and it's OK.

What is this planet generator thing and how do I use it?

I like the idea of something different. No continents, no pangea, no terra. Inland Sea or Ring map could be interesting. There would still be plenty of early interaction between civs.

I like the idea of terra. Gives a pangea start so everyone can meet and fight over land, but also gives something to race for. Usually terra maps give resources only found in the new world.

I can go with separate continents as long as every landmass is contactable via galley.

Inland sea or fractal, or whatever, just as long as we don't have to wait ages to make contact.

Demogames are about interacting, lets make sure we dont put in an artificial barrier to that

They tend not to work well in PBEM's from my experience, don't see how a demogame will be much different.

The starting continent is overcrouded and leads to early elimination of some teams. Teams spending resources trying to settle the new world are then often punished for not spending those resources back home on defense and the new world becomes thier little reservation.

The only thing they got going is they make playing a squeeze tactic easier.

The snaky pangea map looks interesting, but with larger "blobby landmass bits" and less sea.........
I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.
