  • The "Imperio has made peace" mega-short-term-question thread

So we have about 10 different threads in progress that discuss the Imperio and Templar wars and the diplo efforts that surround them. In an effort to make sure the Turnplayer actually responds to the consensus of the group, I wanted to spell out a few questions and ask for feedback.
    __________________________-

    1) What should we do about research?
    a) Set research to gunpowder and run max science immediately to get the tech soonest.
    b) Set research to paper and run minimal science until the end of this turn, and then if Imperio hasn't gifted gunpowder swap to to that.
    c) Research paper for at least this turn, give Imperio move time to gift gunpowder.

    2) What civics? (I assume Mercantilism is off the table now)
    a) Nationhood right away to make use of Golden Age drafting time.
    b) Nationhood as soon as we have Gunpowder.
    c) Stay in bureaucracy for tech purposes, since we may not actually attack Imperio.

    3) When do we want to capture Jerusalem?
    a) As soon as possible
    b) As soon as we have three settlers in place to surround it with culture.
    c) Delay as long as possible, don't capture it until Imperio complains.

    4) When we capture Jerusalem what do we do with it?
    a) Honor our treaty and hand it over to Imperio
    b) Honor our treaty only if Imperio has given us Gunpowder?
    c) Keep the city no matter what.
    d) Raze and re-settle the city no matter what.
    e) Raze the city, re-settle, and gift that city to Imperio (no religions)

    5) What do we do once we've captured Jerusalem?
    a) Position our army defensively.
    b) Pillage Templar lands even if it makes Imperio mad.
    c) Ignore our treaty and capture Constantinople.

          1) B
          2) B
          3) B (bombarding has to start as soon as possible)
          4) B (ONLY if we get Gunpowder this turn! Otherwise we will have invested 1/3 of the beakers already.)
          5) C (as we will break our NAP with them anyway, might as well start with Const (and Jerusalem))

            1) b
            2) b
            3) a - the faster we capture it, the more time of the enforced peace we have left to consolidate our position, take Constantinople, etc. if Imperio appear to be shafting us.
            4) b
            5) depends when we capture, and what attitude Imperio are taking at the time.

TBH these answers are going to change depending on whether or not Imperio honour their agreement to give us gunpowder. So probably best to wait until we know that or not.

Things will change as the game develops, but at this moment time, I vote B across the board.

Sounds like we're on Facebook here. "Which Civilization unit are you?"

                      1) B
                      2) B with C as a possibility. Don't need to decide now between Nationhood/Bureau after the GA.
                      3) A. Free up the units sooner, to move towards either Templar pilling or Imperio defense/backstab. Imperio is not going to beat us to settling in the area.
                      4) B
                      5) B but keep it out of sight of Imperio as much as possible.

                          1) B
                          2) B*. Switch to nationhood with 6 turns left in the GA even if not to Gunpowder yet, so we have another chance at anarchy-free swap.
                          3) B
                          4) B
                          5) A or C. I think those lands are going to be ours soon enough. Also straight B's are boring

My problem with (a) for question 3 is that we're just asking to get back into war with Imperio in 10 turns from now if we keep the city. I'm not sure if we can take Jerusalem and get back to defend Cape Town in 10 turns. Maybe we can, maybe we can't. But I voted for (c) because then we get to control the day when Imperio get angry with us. I don't really think Imperio will betray our NAP. Possibly they will, but we can monitor their forces and send most of the draftees to CT and build catapults from the city itself. But I'm betting they won't do that. If we delay the capture of Jerusalem we can take the city and Constantinople and settle some filler cities and defend cape town on exactly the same turn. Hell, maybe we could even send a column of kamikaze knights into their core cities. But I think we want to start the war with Imperio on our terms, when we are ready and when Imperio are unprepared.
