  • Urban planning: Green Acres

Okay so I'll start the first urban planning thread. We'll see how it goes and maybe create some more threads if we need to.

I'll try to use this first post to give a basic overview of the city

    City: Green Acres
    Tiles (some):
    2*Clams - 5/0/3 - both workboated
    Wines - 2/1/3 - improved
    Grass Hill
    Grass Forest
    2 Grasslands
    1 Plains
    1 Plains Forest

    City Infrastructure
    Library
    Granary
    Lighthouse (Built T115)

Okay so first we want to try and build the Globe Theater here, and see how quickly we can make it happen.

We need a theater (50 hammers, we get double) and then the Globe (300 total hammers and 6 theaters)

Probably the best way would be via whip / chop / whip overflow, since as someone pointed out in the other thread, GA is not a very hammer heavy site.

I'll post some thoughts maybe later tonight or tomorrow but in the meantime if anyone else has ideas or general comments about if this type of thread is useful and/or what you'd like to see out of it, let me know.

Firstly we need to decide: Do we simply want the globe asap to whip things or do we only really need it to be built in time for nationalism. Having the building to whip things would certainly be nice, but the downside is having to build 6 theatres in our other cities, which may wish to build other things right now since we are likely in an arms race with Imperio. The silver lining to that cloud is that we are creative and get cheap theatres.

For urban planning, we need to include all of our cities in one thread, much as Sullla did in the SotE thread. This will give planners and lurkers alike the chance to compare the possibilities for each city individually, and, crucially, to see how these ideas impact other cities, so that we don't lose sight of the big picture.

When it comes to big commitments like Globe or other Wonders, we can start a specific thread, as this approach has served us well so far I think.

I agree with Swiss, regarding the Globe Theater a project specific thread would be better, as it is also independent of the city we will build it in (should we decide to change our mind).

I am personally not seeing the benefit of long term urban planning at the moment, as the situations we find us in are very fluid.
