  • The runaway <strike>AI</strike> humans.

To quote Sulla's latest turnplayer report:
More importantly, look at the cities list on the left side: PAL just settled their sixth city, Alexandria. They are totally out of control - Rabbits have three cities over there, and Banana has two. I'm starting to worry that the incompetence of the eastern teams is going to cost us the game: PAL has seven warriors guarding SIX cities! They would collapse in a sneeze if faced by a real attack.
This situation needs input from the whole team, because if the game continues on its current course, PAL's victory will be sealed in a few dozen turns. PAL appers to have shot their economy by overexpansion in hopes of trading for vital techs in the short run, and converting their jungle to cottages to dominate commerce as strongly as they already dominate production and food.

The thing that gives PAL such a huge advantage over us is that they can guard their cities with Warriors, while our continent is engaged in an arms race. (Imperio just trained another Chariot/Holkan this turn, and I doubt they are planning to use their stack for garrison duty.)

So we have to decide what to do about the situation, and we have to make the decision in the next few days, because our neighbors tend to make decisions at a glacial pace, so by the time we reach any agreement, we'll barely have enough time to execute a plan.

We have several courses of action:

    1. Negotiate a trade imbargo against PAL. (After current round of trades?)

    2. Plan a joint attack against PAL. (Shortly after current round of trades?)

    3. Try to make an exclusive alliance with PAL, and attempt to dominate our continent, while they dominate theirs.

    4. Do nothing and watch PAL become a runaway civ in about 50 turns.

What do you think about the situation? What course of action should we take? Is there any alternative besides the ones outlined above?

I would prefer option 2, giving our neighbors as much C&D information about PAL as necessary to convince them of PAL's vulnerability. The reason is that the units they are training will have to be used somewhere, and we are the most obvious target, if we can't convince our neighbors that PAL is about to become a runaway civ. Just a trade embargo on PAL will not answer the question of "what to do with all these units". And an attack on PAL can help us create a "more fair" distribution of land, by giving our allies lots of land on the other continent in compensation for us planting a flag on almost half of our continent.

Shouldn't this go under the normal PAL contact & info thread? Why discussing PAL related stuff in two threads?

1.) A trade embargo only makes sense and can be justified if we do it now, basically calling off the agreed trade. We can't tell other civs to not trade with PAL after we have landed that important tech trade ourselves.

2.) I doubt we can convince Templars & Imperio at the moment that PAL is the biggest threat to them. I believe they are rather more worried about us. An early attack on PAL has the beauty that they have zero cultural defense, and only weak units at the moment. That will change once we give them archery & iron working. So again, not a good option.

3.) I personally would wait until we have better picture of the other continent. Meet up with Banana & Rabbits and then re-assess.

For now I would sit back and watch.
