Oh, haha, I only just found these posts. I was clicking on the realms beyond link at the top of the democracy game forum and seeing not much, thinking no one had started any threads yet. Then I saw the "private forum" link and finally found the discussion.

I prefer quick/normal speed, standard size map and a fast turn timer.

Hey guys, just checking in. Been inactive but I should be here to post ideas and strategy stuff once the game starts (If it starts).

Once this game starts, I think it will move at a pretty nice pace, so the important thing is not whether we have 48 hour or 24 hour turn timers, or epic or normal speed, the important thing is to get the game under way.

After a bit off huffing from me, the vote for the map type now includes Hub as an option. Unless I hear differently, I shall vote on Tuesday for this seeing as sooooo (and maybe Kylearan IIRC) had voiced good reasons in favour of it.

I'm ok with HUB. Also ok with Inland Sea. My basic map requirement would be one that limits our borders.

Yep, I'd prefer Hub followed by Inland Sea.

Oh, and thanks Swiss Pauli for making sure a new poll was started.

                I also like these suggestions.

On that note, should we ask them for rank-choice voting? (The type where you send in the list and if your top choice is eliminated, your vote is applied to your second choice. If that is eliminated your vote goes to third choice, etc.) Since hub wasn't even in the poll originally, I doubt it will get too many votes.

Hmmmm... I want a poll whether to go with rank-choice voting or not ...
                  :-)
I am ok with any map choice.

Rank choice would be a nightmare: teams would spend forever trying to sort out their preferences by endless rounds of rank choice voting in their own threads.

I'm hoping that by being 'new' that Hub will be considered last before people decide and might find additional favour.

I'm OOP until Friday, so if anyone wants to stand in for me, post in here and I'll PM Rob. I don't expect another vote to close in the meantine, however.

I vote that we form a committee to conduct feasibility study for implementation of rank-choice voting for the vote on the applicability of rank-choice voting to the problem put forth in the current discussion.

Ok, I didn't think about the extra delay from people making up their minds about entire list, so scrap that idea.

PS Swiss, if we need to send in a vote while you are away, I can do it. (I can check these boards pretty often.)

I vote rank choice, only because I'm terrified a couple clans might try to pick actually go through with the archipelago idea.

Cheers Zeviz. I'll compose a memorandum (in triplicate) to the relevant sub-committees forthwith and post haste.

but shouldn't it be called proportional representation and not rank choice. Most sensible democracies already use this voting method. It is actually a nice way to make your vote count more than once ... vote for the least popular knowing that it will be eliminated but just make sure that your 2nd or 3rd selection is what you actually prefer.

I am actually starting to like the Civ4 Dictator game idea ... this is what it is and you will like it!

Nice. one of the teams that got us into the Terra map in the first place, already left.

With PAL not voting it wouldn't have mattered as we went down 4-2 in the vote.
