I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

I therefore propose to put two workers and most of our archers in Diggers Burrow (move most of the Caerbannog garrison to Diggers Burrow), let at the onset of our turn the workers build a road towards the forest spot where the PAL Great Maceman is and throw 10 or so archers at the 3 units there in a bit to destroy them. And continue until those 3 units are dead. This deprives PAL of a GG, increases the amount of XP necessary to get a new GG and gives us enough support room to train more up-to-date units like catapults and swords/axes. As on the archer in Caerbannog, IF we're gonna throw most of them at some PAL units, its a mere replacement then for the lost units.
As on the stepping down part. Next weekend is most likely impossible for me to take over since I'm probably on a short trip, and 2 months after that my main vacation starts so...
I don't think 10 Archers against those 3 units(8+75%, 8+85% and 5+75%) will be enough.
Maybe a better idea is to send a worker to the copper field and start mining; that might draw them out of the forest.

yes waste of troops tothrow them away on forest bonuses.A proud member of the "Apolyton Story Writers Guild".There are many great stories at the Civ 3 stories forum, do yourself a favour and visit the forum. Lose yourself in one of many epic tales and be inspired to write yourself, as I was.

Well, better to spent them on a suicide battle then be forced to disband them.
Granted, a few catapults to soften those forest defenders first would be good.
But the copper plot idea is worth a try. Just make sure those workers are protected by a spearman or two against war chariots coming out of the LOS, and a stronger unit for the Great Maceman (I presume it has the 2 moves promotion).

I would advise pulling the workers back and building cottages away from the front lines.
In addition I advocate the capture of the Barbarian city of Magyar and incorporte it into our empire. Build 2 catapults instead of swordsmen at this time.
I don't like the idea of sacrificing archers needlessly against macemen fortified in woods.Yes, negotiations could take some time.
