Our Short term Plan!
I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.Tags: None

Mentioning, AGAIN, what I would do:
Capitol: Focus on buildings, workers, and Settlers, whipping the latter whenever possible.
BREED!!!!
2nd city: Build it's own worker, build barracks, build 3 axeman, 1 spear, then continue to pump out units and whip buildings/workers/settlers when it hits it's happy.
This becomes the harrassment stack from hell. It's job is to force PAL to guard it's workers, guard it's improvements, cities, and settlers. AND NOT TO ATTACK THE CITIES!!! Only taking targets of opportunity. (pillaging a copper, for instance)
This forces PAL into one of 3 courses: Attempt to kill our stack, attempt to ignore our stack, launch a counter strike.
An attempt to kill our stack after it has been loosed only slows down PAL's expansion, and, we should keep to defensible terrain to ensure PAL uses more hammers to destroy our stack than it was worth.
Attempting to ignore our stack forces PAL to focus on defending it's settlers and cities while utilizing their road network to keep units from us. A proper zone defense can make pillaging difficult. In this case, our stack should focus on forcing them to expand westward, thus freeing our expansion right to their doorstep.
Launching a counter attack attempts to make us withdraw our troops. We should be prepared with proper scouting to see such an attack coming a long way off, and utilize the thus weakened PAL defenses to our stack's full pillaging potential.
All of this is meant to be a prelude to a full blown attack with catapults. (which is why I wanted the top half, but we can obtain from Banana, hopefully)
THAT is how I would play the situation. We've already gone astray from it's perfect implimentation on several points, but that does not mean it is no longer a valid strategy either.
IF we do attack "with axes", we should not neccessarily attack with axes...but rather a force comprised of axes and horse archers, which make for a most deadly pre-catapult invasion force in the right hands.
I would be against a philosophy of lining up 10 axemen to hopefully kill their 4 fortified archers, however. Pyrrhic victories are not good in CIV.I don't know why he saved my life. I'll throw my whatever fully behind UnOrthOdOx and his plan. ...with the hope that if we have a decent shot at taking a city that it be at least considered.
...and may I add that when someone gives the rabbits what they want that it be what they want when its given to them.Last edited by Lancer; August 8, 2008, 18:44.Long time member @ Apolyton

UnO already kept empire building in account, fed. He thinks of Caerbannog as a settler/worker farm.
About barbs: once the barracks are on I don't consider them a real threat anymore.

From the Correspondance Thread - PAL
Post by Rob...
We are a democracy. My words mean no more, or less, than anyone elses. On all occasions, I have tried to play the turns according to the majority vote.
If the majority want to action Uno's plan then I am more than happy to go along with the majority. If we do take up his plan it will need more, and continued, input from him, otherwise we will be working on out of date information more and more as we progress. I for one remember his tenure in the SPDG as Minister of War, and respect his military prowess hugely. As such I think he is one of a handful on our team who should have a big say on all things military.
I agree that PAL are our biggest threat, and as such should be taken down at some stage in the future. The exact timing I am unsure of, and will depend on how efficiently we grow from now on, and how that growth compares with our neighbour PAL.
If our other neighbour is indeed Banana then, from all accounts, we need not fear them too much. Logic dictates that you should keep your strongest neighbour in check, otherwise they will continue to grow stronger and stronger.
My own belief, as you know, is that we should press from the NE, while Banana presses from the S, but that is rather orthodox doctrine, and as Uno rightly points out, one that can be expected. What will be needed ultimately is and unorthodox approach.........
What I meant by "The foundations of our 'friendship' have been laid" is that PAL trust us enough to declare 'war' on them and pass through unmolested to the other side of their empire. IMO that is a huge mistake on their part. We should now have access to another civ, which only weakens PAL's position in the grand scheme of things.
By "Less is more" I mean that we shouldn't be in a rush to send diplomatic messages just for the sake of keeping a dialogue going. Words said now may come back to haunt us if we say the wrong thing to the wrong team.
In short, if the majority wants Uno's plan, lets go for it!!!Long time member @ Apolyton

I view short term as 50-75 turns; medium as 100-150 turns; long term as 200+ turns.
In my opinion our only short term plan should be expansion. I would favor aggressive expansion in the sense of dropping cities 3, 4 and 5 on PAL's doorstep to stop their Northern expansion. To facilitate this we need to get to our unique building, the Rathaus. This provides -75% to our city maintenance so we can afford a vast empire. This is why I strongly advocate the Meditation-Priesthood-Oracle slingshot to Code of Laws.
It is too early and we do not have enough information about the whole world to go to war with PAL. If the other old world island decides to band together and conquer our island it would be in our best interest to have as many allies as possible. If the two Financial civs on the other island decide to work together on the tech tree we will have a big challenge before us. Even bigger if we do not have anyone to trade techs with ourselves.
We certainly should not form a permanent alliance with PAL at this point. We should keep them in mind as a potential medium or long term target on the road to our ultimate victory. For the short term we should maximise the benefit from our relationship.Yes, negotiations could take some time.

This from UnO in the PAL thread...
"I'm afraid I'm going to have to be more of a 'big picture guy' in this game than you might have seen me in other games, however. I'll get what specifics I can get to you from the screenies, but I don't have BTS, and can't access the game to study stuff in detail.
One word of caution that came to me over the weekend reguarding the general 'plan' is that we need to be prepared to launch an offensive if PAL decides to rush Banana."
So, the question becomes can we carry out UnO's strategy with UnO in the background? Rob mentioned a list of good generals, incl UnO but also
PLATO
Geo
Chuckman
Ms_Summer
particularly do they believe they can carry out the operation as described by UnO?
Also fed has a couple he considers good.Last edited by Lancer; August 11, 2008, 14:09.Long time member @ Apolyton

Lancer, there's really no need to copy our posts over several threads. We can read those other threads, you know.
