The worker could also construct a quarry from the start. It's a loss of turn(s) if you first chop then quarry.

It is a loss of turns, for hammers quicker. Someone would need to run the maths to see if those hammers quicker would result in a quicker settler or not. I'l be willing to lose a worker turn or two for a settler a turn or two quicker.

But, eyeballing it, I'm guessing that's not how it would play out, and we may as well save the worker turns.

It's a very difficult situation we find ourselves in. We should all remember that surrender is a viable option in such terribly hard times as these.

Hey, I guess there's no point in whipping a settler to try to get him to pick up a damn shovel and do some work?

Nah just kidding. We should consider that such questions come from the greatness of our rabbit bounty. These are good problems to have.

I think I should let folks that actually have access to the game decide this question. I forgot that masonry brings the quarry option. :duh:

            Chop 5 turns,
            Mine 11 turns before chop,
            Mine 6 turns after chop.

Turns take from epic, no loss of turns.

Like Viking said, the time to make the improvements (together or
one at a time) is the same.
The difference is that one at a time gives first the hammers bonus
but loses 1H until the other improvement (here quarry) is done.
Because the bonus goes to a settler, and more we are imperialists,
the one at a time way seems better.
              Best regards,
