Russia&Cossacks are a bit too much trodden ground in my opinion. Besides, the UB comes way too late for a MP teamgame, while the possibility exists that the game won't go that far.

If this game is going to be played on a Terra map, I'd like to propose Portugal. Plenty of commerce from the seas with the UB, and first dibs on a oceanic transport that in the right circumstances can be used for a surprise amphibious attack.

For a more landbased map I propose Charlemagne. Splendid unique unit when Engineering comes around, and when we're there the castle can be build for defense AND extra trade. Not to forget the unique building, giving us a quarter more support leeway to settle/occupy territory.

When it comes to aesthetic feel there is not much already out there to reference. The big one would be Watership Down by Richard Adams. (I can't find my copy at the moment.) There is also Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter, the Easter Bunny, the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland, the invisible rabbit Harvey from the Jimmy Stewart 1950 movie of the same name and Playboy bunnies.

Watership Down gives us a place name, Watership Down. Warren security forces were known as the Owsla. The leader of the rival militaristic warren was General Woundwart. The rabbit diety was El-hrairah. A bunch of character names like Hazel, Fiver, Bigwig, Silver, Dandelion, etc.
Yes, negotiations could take some time.

I'm not all that Aggressively-minded, personally. I like the Expansive/Imperialistic idea -- multiply like wabbits! Keep in mind that with a large enough population base, even less-promoted troops should be able to overrun the enemy.

The Caerbannog point is well-put -- but what was that killer wabbit, our forbear, trying to do? Protect his den, of course! From those nasty trespassing knights with their coconuts and hand grenades! You'd be scared too if you were the size of a wabbit! So maybe we ought to go Protective/Imperialistic (Charlemagne) or Expansive/Protective (Mao).

But Mao means cat! Sworn enemy of the wabbit. On the other hand, Charlemagne's "French" were the ones to eventually defeat Arthur Pendragon, with the aid of the cops. (Couldn't have been Louis's French -- wrong time period.) So how 'bout those Holy Romans! We can even change the civ name to Caerbannog so that it doesn't sound as dippy as Holy Rome.

Or we could just call it the HRE for Holy Rabbit Empire. The unique building could be modified to ra(bbi)thaus. That -75% upkeep lends itself to lots of expansion. The Landsknecht unit would really chew up knights. If we are leaning theme based civ, HRE is a strong candidate.

It's easy enough to rename a civ in a game.

                      I still like Stalin.

I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

I rather have cheerful king then a grudging and lethal commisar as role model...

If possible, better wait the map choice, before the leader one.

Portuguese,as Dutch, are very good if coastal, but if not...

And among the spoken leaders,I prefer Stalin. (Not the ideal choice
for my money, but with no Fin,Phil or Char). A big challenge, indeed.

                          Best regards,

                              Ghengis and cossacks anyone?

Or what about Rome and Praetorians?

Rome and Genghis is also a bit worn out IMO. I like the HRE (Holy Rabbit Empire) or Stalin.
