Hmm, I found out what was wrong. FuzzyLogic did indeed make the game faint... it was hung with a "Cannot create autosave for FuzzyLogic" message.
Who logged in with that name - and is there anything odd about that civ version?
Particularly, was it a correct v3.17 install, and was there any odd character in the player name?
Anyway, since it hung, it still is at 46 hours (but not actually crashed, so Imperio's play is recorded).<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.

No odd characters in the name.
Ever since day one, I've had trouble logging in. I get past entering the password and it starts to download the game data, then I get the message "We have lost our connection to the host." Often it takes several tries before I finally get in. All those times when you saw someone logging in and out repeatedly were probably me.
Last night I was trying to troubleshoot the problem with a packet sniffer while tweaking some options in my router. The last thing I changed was the game option for the network speed; I changed it from broadband to dial-up modem. That slowed down the transfer quite a bit and it actually succeeded the first time. However, a couple more tries failed and then I gave up for the night.
I don't know what I could have done to cause the hang, but I humbly apologize to everyone in the game and, especially to Snoopy.
If anyone is interested:
Windows XP Pro SP3 (also failed with SP2)
Failed before and after the 3.17 patch. It seems like it's worse after the patch, but it's probably my imagination.

Looks like it's hung again.
I tried to connect to the game and got the "We have lost our connection to the host" message during the download. When I tried a second time, it initially connected, I entered the PW, then it hung. A subsequent attempt to start over could not establish the initial connection, I just get the "hyperactive progress bar".
Sorry, everyone.

There was a problem similar to last time with, again, the "Rabbits" player (whomever logged in as "Wabbits"). It again had an error message "Could not create autosave for Wabbits".
I'm amused by the "Could not create autosave" error... seems like an odd error. I guess it indicates a problem with the connection...
RP, do you MP any? I'd wonder if it's a firewall/port/router issue...
Anyhow, it is fine now, with 46 hours left.<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.

Maybe I'll try bypassing the router sometime. When it does manage to get through the initial download, it seems to stay connected.
