  • Public posting once the game starts.....

As we have approximately two weeks to go before the set-up is finished, and CyberShy will be making the map for us, I thought it was about time we discussed the matter of in-game public posting.

Do we allow public posting only when all teams have met each other??

Do we allow public posting from the start??

Do we allow public posting when a team has met one other civilization??

Any more suggestions?? This is an open discussion, so please lets have as many opinions as possible.......

I think some public bravado is good for the game.
I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

        public bravado

civs trying to form alliances before they have even met in game

civs trying to do things not allowed by the interface since neither has the tech for it

Any more thoughts on this, either as individual players or as teams opinions??

I am sure that we should allow some interaction in the aming forum, but giving away things in not good.

I guess my view is that once the game actually starts - then it appears (for all intents and purposes) that nothing is happening - if you are just viewing the public forum.

If we intend to play a Civ game, then don't allow public posting from the start.

But public posting when a team has met all other civilizations in game, yes

I have always been a firm believer in what Astro proposes above. However with fewer teams, and less apparent animosities dragged forward from old games, I'd be willing to give some sort of public posting from the beginning a shot.

However, we really shouldn't be giving away vital game info without contact so I'm not sure how that can be accomplished?

Lets say the Templars and the Banana's are on the same continent and meet each other first, a propoganda war would be fun but would tell all the other teams we are early neighbors.

How do we get around that?

I'd say 'let the poster beware' when it comes to spoilers: public posting inevitably gives (mis)information to the other teams, so I don't see any reason to forbid it until later. After all, teams can communicate privately from the beginning, so why bar public posts?

OK, shall we have a team vote on this???

Do we allow public posting from the start??

Do we allow public posting when a team has met one other civilization??

All the above is on the provision that no activities take place that circumvent the rules of the game, no trying to achieve things that are not yet achievable in the game yet due to insufficient techs, i.e map trading, alliances etc......

All the above is also on the provision that we all act like the good ladies and gentlemen that we are. No flaming, no nastiness, just good old fashioned honest (or not so honest ) fun.

As Swiss Pauli so eloquently pointed out :
