        • Big and Small type map could be good, I've enjoyed every map I've played of that type, but I've only done SP, so take my opinion for what you think it's worth.

Longest game speed possible. Or maybe a road multiplier bonus, something to facilitate unit movement. Build and tech times aren't the problem on faster game speeds, at least for me, it's that by the time I move my units to an opponent, they are a generation obsolete.

As for tech brokering, it sounds like a good idea to leave it to the teams to deal with, but is there any way to know if a team has traded a tech they agreed not to trade? If not, then no tech brokering .

Do we want any deserts or peaks on this map at all? I understand that having nothing but grassland and hills would be bad, you can't have the terrain be insane, but do we really want alot of wasteland?

          • Unrestricted leadwers are not particulary balanced ie aggressive rome, protective Mali etc, so best not to use it..

            • If we go with tech brokering - then i vote for epic speed.

I guess the tech brokering question also hinges on the map we use. With a pangaea map - and normal speed - we could have a very quick game. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing.

              • Maybe we should set a deadline to start the game, patch or no patch. The patch if/when issued will be backward compatible anyway.

                • Nah, there's no rush. There will be hassle with the patch if we start without it... I can almost guarantee it...

The problem is when one team has built a bunch of a certain unit due to the benefits of that unit, only to have the patch remove/nerf that benefit. Or a bunch of other possible tweaks that could severely alter a teams standing.

In my opinion it is best to just wait for the patch. BTW, CFC's MTDG suffered from patch problems when deciding whether to update to the newest patch. It's not worth going through.

                    • About game speed, a marathon game lasts over a thousand turns. How many years will it take to finish one of those? (Or even an epic game for that matter.)

                        Agreed!

Even though patches are supposed to be backwards compatable - there always seems to be an issue of some sort.

                          Marathon is way too slow.

The issue with Normal is that if we end up with a large map, due to number of teams playing, then units become obsolete too quickly.

IMO the speed is really dependant on the size of the map, which is dependant on the number of teams, of which we seem to have 7 already.

                            • I'd rather we stuck to a Standard size map if possible.

                              • Actually, using a shorter gamespeed like normal or quick wouldn't matter if the "time" victory option would be disabled. And thus No tech brokering wouldn't affect the game either then for those thinking they need to be able to discover all technologies before the turntimer stops.
With Quick or perhaps Normal speed, there's at least a better sense of progress to your civ. Thinks move forward, new units are available within 20 turns instead of 50. Technologies don't take half a month real time or longer to be finished.

For the latter, especially since we're supposed to play as a team, which means discussing things over and over before applying them to the game. And for a decent discussion a team needs time, something that a 24 hour turn lapse doesn't give.
