My first OCC and a very nice game! Learned a lot, to OCC and regular
game. Like long years ago at chess, put my hands between my body
and the chair, and just looked and thought.
Why? And what for?
Religion? Not for happiness,gold or diplomacy. But yes for OR and Pac.
So, just one is needed and important.
Gold? Yes for to upgrade units. Science, sure, slider at 100%.
And specialists when possible. And almost all Wonders I can grab.
So, production is the top thing. Five hills give 16H for -6F; but the 4
food specials allow it and still a good grow.
So, I can stand my way with food and hammers. And with science?
Obviously I cannot for the whole game. So, my only chance is to
beeline and cripple opponent's commerce.
So, I began the game trying to win turn advantages.
Research: (I was lucky, got Hunting and Priesthood from huts) Poly,
Mining,Fishing,BW,Pot.,Iron,Mono,Agri, AH,Sail; this done,bee toward Literature, Math, Drama,Civil and Lib; then to Astro, Mil.Sc. and Rifling.
Builds: worker,2 workboats,Oracle,forge,Artemis,Pyramids,GL.
Worker: mined and roaded the hills,then the fur and food (never
built another).
As NW: GT, Moai, NE, Oxford; the last slot was for NP.
Units: 2 triremes,2 caravels ASAP to circum (later all to frigates) 4
galleons, foot troops to upgrade to rifle and granade and ships of line.
Almost all specialists were settled.
War: never allowed opponent cities on my continent; invasion with
rifle and grenadiers. Towards most important cities, the 12
units almost always together,priority to pillage cottages to stop
science and to avoid better ground or sea troops. Just attack the
cities at very high odds.
Civics: Representation,Bureaucracy, Caste,Mercantilism,OR/Pacifism.
And,so far I remember,that's all.

This was the one game where I actually was completely lost with what to do. I tried a few test OCC games before this and was able to completely blow the AI out with a tech lead. However, in this scenario, I was the one that couldn't keep up. I almost never could even offer a trade to the AI, and then at some point he made a colony, and that just made things worse. I am going to try this again, but with some of the choices fed made.
