    Lets hear your stories!

I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

I planted initial city in place. Not the greatest start area, but workable. I decide to forgo religion right off. Hugh map I figured there would be 3-4civs with mysticism to start. I get lucky with huts and add a scout and a warrior. The addiyional scouting help tells me something is odd as no contact for an extremely long time into game.

I had found a good second city site to the north, plains hill with plenty of food. It was about that time I got a major shock, only three civs on a hugh map!! I was surprised by my ability to be top 3 in all the demographics, but attributed it to bad barb luck by some of the civs. I had to make a beeline to Code of Law, as first three religions were gone and I hadn't even bothered to research anything beyond Mysticism.

Once I got Code of Law, I set my goal to getting Samuari. The barbs had been fairly easy to manage with Drill II archers in terrain. Aztecs got the Great Wall and that seemes to have funneled a bunch of barbs my way. By the time I got Samurai, I had a good 10-12 10 XP archers that I upgaraded to longbow/crossbow.

I began making my SoDs to attack the Aztecs. Samurai, Trebuchet and a some Pike/Longbow/Crossbow for defense. Just as I had assembled two substansial stacks, Monty does me the favor of declaring war. He then proceeds to throw his stack against two Longbow and a Crossbow that have been sitting on a border hill for the last twelve turns. The Aztec power sufficiently nosedives enough that Babylon will have no part of joining in, despite a big negative diplomatic status I have with them.

I make short work of Aztecs taking half their cities before they capitulate. At that point Babylon is catching up in technology and has to many cities to grind down, so I decide to take the spaceship victory route. Pretty much coasted to the win. One thing I learned was to have a strong espionage point base built up for the endgame. I lost ten spaceship parts, either in construction or already built, to Babylonian spy attacks.

Curses! I'm just not finishing these games fast enough lately. I'm actually doing pretty well, I'm curious to see where I end up compared to the officially submitted games.

So far, the raging barbarians setting has been REALLY interesting, especially since I opted to skip building the Great Wall! It's totally changed how I'm playing the game this time. Much, much more focus on military. I plowed through Montezuma in the Samurai era, then raced up to riflemen & cavalry & cannons and am about to blitz Hammurabi. We'll see how it goes.
