Playing as Russia, one of my old favourites in the old vanilla CivIV days. Too bad they nerfed some of the Cossack attributes in Warlords and BtS… oh well.

Being a Large map with no water to break up the world, makes for a HUGE game when played on Plains map. This game begs a conquest or domination victory, but it was a hard slog. I only built 4 cities, with which to launch my persuasive dominion on my neighbours.

The French were the first to fall, always an easy prey, as are the Indians who fell next many centuries later. With these cities under the realm, it was time to build up the forces that would carry me for the rest of the game. Not much to tell… build up infrastructure to support a formidable force and then launch it one after the other upon the neighbours. Nothing brilliant here… just hard work and always keeping an eye out for any opportunities to try for an earlier victory with diplomacy – but in the end, it was force that dominated. Shaka was vassalized, followed my Victoria, and finally Mao Zedong. Washington and Bismarck were eliminated in the end, and the last victim was Isabella when domination was achieved early in the war.

I guess about all there is left to dissect in my game is maybe units:
    Unit…….…...Built-Killed-Lost (Comment)
    Maceman… 4 – 49 – 0 (don’t use them much except to protect from Pikeman)
    Pikeman … 0 – 57 – 0 (Never make them – the enemy likes them though)
    Musketeer .. 4 – 41 – 0 (Easy enough to kill with even knights, don’t use myself)
    Longbowman 11 – 96 – 0 (A blood bath for the enemies)
Knight …….. 37 – 71 –16 (First workhorse, then upgraded if they survive)
    Cuirassier… 39 – 30 –26 (2nd workhorse, then upgraded the survivors)
    Cossack….. 84 – 0 – 39 (Really puts the fear into the enemy)
Catapult…...19 – 52 – 19 (Make them as sacrificial units only, none survived)

Picked up 9 scientist, 1 Great Artist, 1 Great Merchant and 8 Great Generals
