Another game, which wasn’t my favourite way to achieve victory, but usually a failsafe way to win when other victories become out of reach. I am impressed with all the cultural victories (at least 4) by the other competitors, and I was the odd one out with a diplomatic win.

With such a large map and so many civilizations, this was a game suited to Diplomatic victory. So, I tried to maintain outstanding relations with a couple of nations. Mindful, things can go wrong, I also kept up my cultural buildings and nature, which happened to be a good way to strengthen my nation overall pushing borders back. However, I found that even friends will attack if convenient, and the few wars I undertook to gain enough area to keep a sound and strong economy, the victim of my attacks was able to bribe even my best friends to attack me in their defence.

Fortunately, Suryauarman who was a good friend before the war was still a good friend after the war and I was able to keep enough friends to the end to be voted in under the U.N. I tried for an Apostolic win, but as usual have never achieved that win and had to beeline for the techs that allowed for the U.N. to be built. In the end the votes came from Mansa Musa who was my vassal, Suryauarman who was Friendly even after his attack, and the two remaining nations were Qin and Khan. I had 47% of the land, but 56% of the population. My best cultural city was only around 25,000 culture so I commend those people who achieved three cities of legendary culture… it would have taken me much longer to achieve that.

As for an upset in the cards... definately - I have failed miserably at game 16. Oh well, game 17 has to be an improvement...

this is pretty late to post, but I enjoyed this game.

      Wonders:
      Pyramids
      Statue of Zeus
      Great Library
      Apostolic Palace
      Sistene Chapel
      Angkor Wat
      Taj Mahal
      Broadway
      Eiffel Tower

other civs beat me to some of the big cultural wonders, but I made sure to get Sistene Chapel and get monasteries in my AP religion and temples in multiple religions for multiple cathedrals in the big 3 culture cities. The big 3 all had six religions in them. Spent time micromanaging missionaries and artists and balancing the culture of the big 3 with cathedrals/wonders etc. To get them to pop legendary around the same time. WOuld have preferred to get the culture vic before broadway and eiffel tower.

As for warring with AI, which I am working on, fell into my usual (I think bad) habit of letting the wars come to me instead of planning them (KK attacked so I took a city from him, then peace treaty). Peaceful expansion was my big goal early in this game. But in the 1500s I actually planned and executed a war to take all of the nicest 4 Khmer cities, then vassalize Khmer. Only ever made it to 42% of land area though. The brilliant Korean AI had marched a settler through my land to settle right in the middle of the empire. I let that stand for a long time, then took 2 from Korea and vassalized at an opportune time when they were under attack from the other China.
