my initial plan was to rush the english with axemen, and hopefully push through the indians as well, doing enough damage that i could just coast along to a space race victory. i built up to my usual 3 cities and started working on an army, but the territory i owned had very few food resources, which really slowed me down- in retrospect, my second city probably should have been to the east and claimed the rice/cows. i rely heavily, probably too heavily, on slavery for my fist assault. to make matters worse, London was a triple sea-food city with silver, so i knew i had to plan for double the defenders just from them whipping.

i did notice that there was two choke points that i could easily block off, and claim a huge portion of the available land for myself just by putting down one more city and never signing an open borders treaty. so my new plan was to block the other civs off and slowly expand into all of that available territory, then build up my economy from there. i knew i'd be behind for most of the game but a land advantage like that always wins in the end.

being stuck between me and asoka, the english never expanded very far. the indians however covered their whole side of the continent, and in no time had a huge tech lead. i kept plugging away and expanding and by the late 17th century, id claimed almost 70% of the available land. the tech disparity was quickly fading away as i was blowing through new techs in just a couple of turns. as some point the english became my vassals, as my power had grown so much (i never went to war the whole game).

i felt pretty confident that i could tech past asoka eventualy and get to space first; then out of nowhere, i got the message that i had lost to a culture victory. i should have known, seeing as the indians got virtually every wonder (i did manage the apostolic palace, which was 100% useless). there was nothing i could have done to prevent this, as i was only just catching up in echnology, so a war would have been a lost cause.

ah well, better luck next time.

The basic pattern of my game was the same as jbp's: box in Vicky then steadily fill the rest of land. Where it differed was that I remembered to check Asoka's progress towards a CV.

I actually forgot about it during a session break of a few days, but taking the Leccy & Radio wonders just let me India all the harder: Infantry and Cannon versus Grens & Rifles was rather onesided and though he did try to get some counter units (anti-tanks, airships) it didn't stop my tank and artillery boosted army from razing half a dozen cities.

I'm not a fan of warring as I find it too much of a cure-all solution, but there was little choice in this game. Might have been more fun racing Asoka to Space with CV switched off.

this was my big problem- i was the one with grenadiers while asoka had infantry. im not sure how india got such a huge lead, i guess i expanded too quickly to keep up.

Even allowing for the tiny map, 1775AD is damned early for an AI CV. Were all of you friends? It was me & Vicky v Asoka in a religious split, and I snagged quite a lot of Wonders, too. Asoka had switched off research for the culture push in my game, but I need to check the dates again to see when I slapped him around.

Victoria and Asoka went to war a few times but nothing ever came of it. I was on good terms with everyone and Victoria evetually became my vassal. In my game, Victoria got hemmed in on both sides very quickly and was limited to three or four cities, while Asoka had the rest of that side of the continent to grow into. I don't think I built any wonders aside from the AP, because I focused exclusively on expanding. I think I did this too rapidly, which led to me falling way behind in tech, and as a consequence basically handing Asoka all of the wonders. ah well, I don't play Emperor often, so I wasn't too disappointed.
