My game went surprisingly like those described in the advanced game discussion. I got an extra scout early and spotted England in the south and the big juicy open area to the east. I decided to expand quickly and deny open borders to keep England out of the eastern land, and continued expanding as fast as I could to fill up the map. A couple of times England decided to be a bully, invading one of my border cities, but each time she accepted a peace treaty straight away.

Throughout the game I kept losing out on wonder building to India. Fairly late in the game I checked and sure enough, 3 Indian cities were fast approaching legendary culture. I switched the majority of my production to building a huge invasion force and pushed in to take over one of the high culture cities.

Then India got the UN and started pushing for diplomatic victory! With England still a thorn in my side and voting for India to win, I decided she had to go. I took my huge Indian invasion force and swept over and eliminated England, securing enough population to avoid any chance of a diplomatic loss.

After narrowly avoiding first a cultural then a diplomatic loss, it was smooth sailing to Alpha Centauri, since I had maintained a decent tech lead over India.

By the way, one thing that I've found has been helping me quite a bit with these games is a quick trial run with the leader on my own randomly generated map, before I download the tournament map. This gets me familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of the leader, unique units and buildings.
