One of the issues for Rob and Nugog is how big, and how long, can they make these TLT games. Most of them are standard size, normal speed - and that's fine. Those can usually be knocked out in a few evenings. We've had some large maps, and a couple of epic speed games.
I'd like to discuss some thoughts, so we could perhaps expand the range of options used in the TLT games. First, I really like having a new game start every two weeks. I do NOT want to see regular games start any other way. I think everyone looks forward to the next start, whether they're done with the current one (or, like me, not!)
Probably most people would like a few big/long games, but not everyone. Making a game both bigger and longer stretches what people can fit into a four week limit. My gaming time, for example, is limited to 10-15 hrs/wk at best. Also, some people don't have the hardware to handle the really big maps. So I think it might be better to put the really big/long games in for the grognards as an extra bonus feature, not replacing the regular games.
So, how could we accomodate big maps, or marathon speed? Is the game length set in stone at four weeks? I wouldn't mind having a big/marathon game go for six weeks, or even 8 if its on a large map. Marathon is not my normal cup of tea, but I wouldn't mind trying one once in a while.
Or, how about this as an alternative? Keep the regular TLT game schedule as is: a new game every other Sunday, available for four weeks. In addition, add a special TLT Epic game, say on the 1st day of every month, available for...mmm, 2 months.
The regular games could accomodate anything up to either epic speed, or large maps, with no problem (both at once is a bit much...). The TLT Epic games, running two months (~9 weeks) would have enough time for just about anything - marathon/large is not unthinkable, or doing some mod like Road to War, or...whatever. Those people who have 50+ hours to sink into a CIV game, could have a TLT game to love on.
It would be extra work for Rob and Nugog, of course, but not a whole lot. Just one extra setup and scoring round a month.

Long/short would help with things like Game 12 (Large/Epic). I'm not sure that would be enough to enable a 1500 turn Marathon game in 4 weeks, though. Certainly worth a shot.
