I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

I misunderstood the question. Tech brokering option should NOT be checked, in game setup. That means I should've voted Yes, I think.

playshogi - do you want Tech Brokering to be allowed to happen or No Tech Brokering?

I can change your vote if you want me too - you wioll just need to let me know what you originally voted and what you want.

I voted "No" and I don't want the "No tech brokering option" checked, so I guess that means I want to normally allow it. Thanks, for changing my vote.

Tech brokering is good if there are alot of civs. With a normal complement of AIs I don't think it's necessary.

            No worries.

Tech brokering is the default. Turning it off makes the game a bit easier. (Maybe I shouldn't have changed my vote!)

I would be happy to see it not allowed up to 50% of the time... It just changes some dynamics, some I like, some I don't.

It just makes you pay attention, and it is a SLIGHT advantage to the player, because the A.I. is famous for overtrading every tech, and they can't when Tech Brokering is not allowed (unless the discovered it themselves of course).

These polls - and others that may follow are just to gain some points of view etc.

They in, and of, themselves do not point directly to any game in particular.

I personally think the default is backward. I seem to find when I leave Tech Brokering on that everyone ends up at the same tech level, and nobody is ever at a disadvantage. The AIs always seem to be tech trading whores in my games.

I suppose disallowing tech brokering makes things easier for the player, since the AI can't get techs as cheaply, but I'm not a fan of letting them trade so much.

I was very very happy when this option first appeared in the game!

Tech brokering is fine I think on maps with few AIs, or where the AIs don't have substantial early contact with each other (i.e. a pangaea map). This is because they normally go crazy with tech trading.

I rather agree with Draethor. Brokering on makes tech go too quick when everybody can start trading willy-nilly as soon as they get alphabet. On a Pangea/Highlands/whatever, the tech tree seems to go by too fast if there's no restriction.

Nightmare? Bunch of AIs on a big continent, player isolated by himself on a small 8-10 city continent. AIs will trade themselves 20+ techs past the isolated player, and be landing fleets of galleons when the player discovers caravels.

Brokering off makes stuff like that, well, less bad.

Brokering on is nice in other games though - continents with 2-3 civs per, games with 6 or less civs overall, etc.

All in all, I'm basically neutral on this. I have brokering disabled half the time in my personal SP games. Brokering changes play a little, but I can live with it either way.

Carch - just out of interest - do you normally play with normal or aggressive AI?
