Sadly I lackd the time to finish this one, but I had a fairly slow start due to overexpansion anyway. In 1500AD I was still at double didget research, by 1800 I reached 1000

i was not happy approaching this game. HRE gets my vote for one of the worst civs in the game- they definitely have the worst 2 traits, and a forgettable UU. their only saving grace is their incredible UB. also the terrain looked strange and production was sparse.. i wasn't optomistic.

i wound up not settling on the inital hill, instead settling just above it. i reasoned i would need the extra production. i followed my usual route of expanding to 3 cities, and then started churing out axemen. justinian was the first to fall. isabella attacked me while i was clearing him out, but not to much effect. i made an effort to get to CoL quickly, and started whipping out the unique courthouses everywhere. the huge deduction in maintenance meant i rarely, if ever, had to stop expanding. once justinian was gone, i was plowed through isabella, and then ragnar. by the mid ADs i had most of the holy cities in the game, though only one or two of the associated temples (i had a hard time generating great prophets).

one thing that was quite memorable about this game was the events. for some reason inever get events in league games. i'll get 5 or 6 per game, including the forgettable mine collapses, crasahed airplanes, whatever. this time, my fortune was really something. i got the trireme quest just as i was defending my coastal resources (+2 gold from each harbor), the colloseum quest the turn after i captured the temple of zeus, and two events that gave me free great people. i got generated a free great general in my heroic epic/iron works city, awesome.

anyway after slaughtering egypt, byzantium, spain, and the vikings, i figured i had to be close to winning, but i was wrong. domination wasn't a great plan; i thought coastline and lakes were included in your % of land owned, but apparently that is not the case. since the whole map was snakey islands, a large percentage of the land was actually in the ice caps, making domination very difficult to achieve. at one point i had 80% of the worlds population and 30% of the land. it was trivial to send my massive army to the other continent and finish them off, but this oversight defintiely set me back.

I will try to finish this game later today anyway.

It is currently in 1802 AD and Alexander is about to lose his last 5+ pop city (hopefully agreeing to become my vassal after this since war weariness is starting to really hurt me - I had -400gold/turn the turn before and had to lower my research to 10% => about 600rp/turn).

Stalin and Wilhelm are still around with Stalin having the Apo-Palce, but none are as large/advanced as Alex was.

Stalin will be next with trying to take Moscow (AP) in one turn - which should be possible due to 10 Frigates which can bombard the walls down to 0% - unless he has 10+ troops stationed there.

I think I should be able to finish this one in the 1890s.

Congratz to pmonsieurs btw, with this game I would have been fairly happy to end up in the top3

Well, finished by conquest in 1871 AD, score of 56778...

I shouldn't have been this aggressive at the beginning (all but Ragnar on our continent before even building a 2nd city). Due to the distances to the conquered capitals maintance was hurting me very much.

And I should have gone for CoL -> our UB earlier.

I started expanding to three cities early, getting bronze working, and then started going for oracle/code of laws.
When my troops that weren't guarding cities consisted of two axemen and a chariot, a message pops up that says that Isabella had converted to slavery. This probably meant that she just now researched bronze working, and was instead going for the religious techs. When I look at her cities. I see that all her units are indeed only warriors, and she hasn't even researched archery yet, so I decide to send my "army" in before she can fortify.
My axemen that was exploring Egypt moves up, and is able to singlehandedly capture a city that was defended by two warriors, while my other troops attack Madrid. In total, about 5 warriors show up, but I am rushing some more axemen and sending them in, and Madrid falls some time later, without any casualties to my troops, and I now control two holy cities and the Buddhist shrine. The last Spanish city falls shortly thereafter, eliminating Spain in about 600BC.
Meanwhile, Egypt, Justinian and I all have Hinduism as our religion, and I got a +6 relatios with Egypt, so I am not expecting any attacks there.
However, Ragnar was Buddhist, and was building up a stack, so I prepared for an attack from him. This happens indeed some time later, but I am able to defeat his army, and capture a city on the landbridge to the Viking lands. I have to declare peace for now however to build reinforcements.
I really want to eliminate him before he gets macemen, bacause then he can perform very dangerous amfibious assaults, so as soon as my army is ready I attack. He hasn't built many new troops yet, so the attack is pretty straightforward. When he only has his capital and a bad tundra city, I capture his capital. Strangely enough, I also get a message that I also captured his other city... Has anyone ever experienced this? Anyhow, the Vikings are now eliminated.
So no I am on an island with two other civs that are pleased with me. However, Egypt has the holy Hindu city with shrine, and some other nice cities that are lightly defended, so this is too much to resist . War is declared, and Egypt is removed from all but one of the cities on the continent before being made a vasal.
At this point, I am the first to navigate around the globe, and discovered that the other civilizations are far behind in tech. The plan is to spread my relgion to all other civs and get a religious diplomatic victory. Unfortunately, in some patch, an additional condition on this victory was added that requires you to not have sufficient votes on your own to win this way, so this plan fails.
The best option for victory is therefore to go for conquest. Justinian puts on some defense, but falls without too much trouble, leaving him as a vasal on a single small island.
I then prepare on overseas attack force on the Dutch, who are the weakest of the overseas civs. I set up a base at a small island before the coast, move troops over, and attack. After capturing two cities, Willem capitulates and I return his cities back to him.
I then move to attack Stalin, start capturing (and keeping) his cities, and when he capitulates, I move to the greeks, who don't capitulate until he has lost almost all of his cities.

In conclusion, this game became really easy when I was able to conquer Spain very early in the game, giving me a huge advantage. Also, the unique building is really good and allows one to expand without having to worry about upkeep costs much, which really helps.
