Call To Power 2 Cradle 3+ mod in progress: https://apolyton.net/forum/other-games/call-to-power-2/ctp2-creation/9437883-making-cradle-3-fully-compatible-with-the-apolyton-edition
One of the challenges we have is balancing the need to keep things interesting, different, challenging, but not too challenging, and of appeal to the broadest number of players - without making it boring or repetitive or predictable.
Not an easy task.
I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.
I personally appreciate the hardwork to set up a balanced game, having made a few mods 'on the other side'. It isn't done spur of the moment and takes time to make sure it is interesting, balanced and fun!!!
I just wasn't able to have any fun with the last game and I really look forward to the next game where hopefully I will learn more about BtS and it's nuances!!
I thought that this particular game was really well built. It was distinctly different from the Tri-League games I've previously played and a brilliant in the way that it puts a player in a situation where he has to face a vast number of adversities in order to succeed. As such it's brilliant learning material for anyone, even those who generally play on levels above Prince (I'm a Monarch-Emperor player myself)
I would say that in terms of advancing ones game, this particular game teaches a player more than the two previous ones I've taken part in do combined.
I've probably said too much already and will shut it for now and save my thoughts for the discussion thread. If you feel that this reply is in violation please edit it or notify me and I'll do it myself.
"The state is nothing but an instrument of oppression of one class by another--no less so in a democratic republic than in a monarchy."
I think this is one of the best designed games yet. It's extremely hard (my game would've gone far differently had the AI not been unlucky several times and made one really confusing mistake).
Each game has a theme, and playing these games gives you experience playing in a slightly unusual and different set of circumstances. It definitely helps improve your game because you really learn how best to take advantage of your surroundings, opponents, and traits. You don't really do this much in regular games where each one is pretty straightforward. Even better, the fact that we're all ranked at the end and can discuss it afterwards allows people to show how they've sort of optimized their gameplay to the conditions, and really makes it easy to play better in the future.
Anyway I hope I haven't said too much (anyone who has played one or two past games will have realized these things anyway). The bottom line is that I appreciate the amount of work going into these games.
The only criticism I might level is that the difficulty can be variable at times, for instance this game is a fair bit harder than the last couple. I think it might be a good idea to try to level the difficulty a little more, it would provide someone like me more confidence in trying to step up to the next league.

A good point - and is something that we do try and do - however can be quite difficult to achieve.

Let your every day be full of joy, love the child that holds your hand, let your wife delight in your embrace, for these alone are the concerns of humanity.
