Hey, thanks again for the game. I found the theme on this one to be a lot of fun, and the relatively early (for me, anyway) diplomatic win was a huge surprise to me. Though I guess it shouldn't have been because I stayed friendly with everyone through most of the game.

The thing that made this work for me is that as soon as I found Lincoln close to me and relatively isolated, I pushed hard to try to take him out. I wasn't able to take him out, but I was able to push him out of the little area he was in. He ended up my vassal, with a couple of island cities he had escaped to while we fought. After that, with two countries worth of resources & cities, I was able to stay ahead of the AIs and stay friendly with them. A couple of them liberated cities, and I befriended the new civs as well (except Isabella, who was being very needy and clingy).

My only worry late in the game was oil. I found some and secured it, kept my tech lead. Eventually the UN vote came up and I got the surprise victory!

Sorry I don't have more details on how it went, but it's been a while since I had a look at this one.

      Good game

Thanks again, Rob and Nugog, for another engrossing game.
I was flabbergasted when I got the diplomatic victory, because I've never been able to achieve one before.
In fact, in *this* game I was chuntering along toward a cultural victory when the opportunity to build the U.N. came along. At first, I offered and had accepted pretty inocuous items -- no nukes, trade routes (i think), then just for the hell of it tried for a diplomatic victory. And by God, the AI said yes.
