I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

    Well now I feel better!

Did we all lose except cattivan?
But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

How I lost but still finished 2nd

      Novice game #2.

This looks like a bit of a challenge, since I’m not usually a warrior but a builder. But I know that as a Zulu I’ll have to battle.
First mistake was probably not making use of the Impis, which are immediately available and strong. Oh well, lots more mistakes to come.
I’m not sure how it happened but Catherine soon became a vassal state of mine.
I have a few short wars and take a couple of Mehmed’s cities, but then when I’m poised to take a third, Catherine grabs it from under my nose. Harrumph.
I’m comfortably in the lead in victory points and ahead in technology, especially military techs – no one else has gunpowder yet.
But then, at around 1540, I make another, really dumb mistake: Cyrus persuades me to go to war with the Aztecs. Unfortunately, the Aztecs are next-door neighbors…
During the melee, I fail to notice the Aztecs have captured Ulundi, my capital, so I have to go to war on them again to recapture it, also manage to nab another small city as well, though.

I manage to leave Ulundi with too small a garrison again and Montezuma captures it again; while I fight his garrison down to a couple of old codgers, that damned woman Catherine swoops in and takes it. The good news is that I finally learned the value of having a Vassal State: I couldn’t persuade her to turn Ulundi over to me so tried to goad her into renouncing her vassalness. She had about 10 trade items available. I demanded them, she gave in. I also took her treasury and kept demanding Ulundi, as well as a couple of Arab cities she’d grabbed from under my nose. Eventually she simply gave Ulundi back.

In 2021, while I was at war with Russia and Aztecs, both started by them, and ascendant, Montezuma won a cultural victory. Harrumph, that feather-covered maniac was Cultured?

Only three submissions for this game........

Cattivan was the only winner, OFogy and yourself both lost, but finished second and third respectively by virtue of there being no other submissions.

I didn't realize the game was ending so soon and as a result did not finish, but it was not going well anyway. I tried to be the aggressor for once and go after Monty early, but it turned out early was too early and he managed to turn back my offense, at which point I was behind in tech and expansion. I probably could have stayed alive just by building units constantly, but I was in no position to win. Still a fun game though, will hopefully learn from this in Game 3!
