I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

I'll leave the game setup to those who like to do such things (for my part, I play a lot of random things).

All I'd ask is that you please try to avoid situations that make it unpleasant or needlessly difficult to play. Things like multiple leaders from the same country and missing strategic resources needed for early unique units are nothing but frustrating.

Other than that, I like the variety. I always play on Normal speed myself, so the different speeds are a nice change. I really like the opportunity to try out different maps -- I enjoyed Boreal and Highlands, it was other aspects of those matches that were unpleasant. Earlier we had a couple too many archipelago maps, though. The Civ naval game bores the crap out of me.

I guess to sum up, I like variety, but not too much weird stuff.

Yeah I like the variety... I'd try adjusting number of leaders, map size, speed, starting era... definitely need to do a hippie all-peace game at some point too!

Enjoying myself regardless though with these games!

Thanks for the idea Chuckman, Game #12 wouldn't have been that same without your input!!!

                Idea....

Make a game on a Terra map where the player is Portagul.

Then bump the difficulty up one level from what it normally would be.

how about allowing discussion of the games earlier? all 3 levels of game 13 have a whopping 2 posts discussing it; i believe this is because theres such a long wait between the time you finish the game, and the time you discuss. after i month, i've completely forgotten about it and its not really interesting to discuss by this time. the lack of responses seems to indicate that other people feel the same way.

not sure how you'd implement this, though.

have you guys given any thought to adding some variant games? not that i dont love civ but ive been playing it for a LONG time. we could have a few games be some of the built in scenarios. or, play with unrestricted leaders- theres a lot of room for interesting variants there. i just played a game where one of the AIs was ragnar of the zulu, it was horrible.

another idea that someone else mentioned was to have a side tournament game that is bigger than normal and runs for a month or something. the perfect starting point for this would be the huge earth 18 civs map.

Would everyone need to download and instal the map script?

I am working on a Huge/Marathon side game at the moment.

But Game 21 needs to be finalised and up by this sunday - so that is taking precedence (along with work and family etc)

No, the map script wouldn't need to be downloaded separately. It's just a python script that tells Civ how to make the map, which would be already in the game by the time you made the save

Now where would I find the map itself?

Sorry - but it is faster to ask - as browsing for stuff at 28kbs takes too long.

Are you kidding? Emperor level is already very difficult. You just know that there would be raging barbs in this game, so your settlement in the New World would get wiped out.
