  • Science tip (may be a bit of a cheat)

Don't know if this is common knowledge, but if you set your science level to 100%, you'll start to lose money in a big way, but as long as there's some money in the treasury (even just 1 gold), no matter how much of a deficit you have, it always drops to 0 before going into the negatives. So you can sell your territory map or something for 1 gold each turn and sustain a 100% science rate without accumulating a crippling debt (you can always put taxes on 100% for a few turns if you need money).

doesn't that mean that you can't pay the upkeep on any of your city improvements?
If I'm posting here then Counterglow must be down.

i somewhere heard this worked on chieftain, but not on other levels. But I could be wrong.
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?

You can pay upkeep, it goes from 'Gold: 1 (-300)' to 'Gold: 0 (-300)'. All you do is get another gold to repeat the process.

If this is true, surely it gives rise to exploits. Thanks quadalpha!

Cheating is always a decision of the player, there are too many possibilities... but it is good to know the different exploits so you can identify them in other's games.

Quadalpha - on what difficulty level are you employing this tactic?

I distinctly remember moving from Chieftan to Warlord or Warlord to Regent (OK, not that distinctly ) and being surprised to see that on this new difficulty level a deficit of even 1 gpt resulted in military units and/or city improvements being disbanded / destroyed each turn.

You lose units starting with Warlord in the games I have played at Warlord; even if it is a result of getting units from goody huts.

If I could play at warlord I wouldn't need any cheats/exploits

You're not gonna learn much by using cheats/exploits. But that's just my opinion. If you're having fun, it's all good. If your aim is to move up to higher difficulty levels, I would encourage you not to use this.

Why would anyone bother to play below monarch level after the 10 first games?

Because maybe people are tired after working/ going to school all day, and they want to have a nice fun game.

Because monarch and above are warmongerers difficulties . The easier levels are for builders.
